Internal Auditor

Overview

Remote position.

This role supports compliant financial services for the cannabis industry. Because the work operates in a highly regulated environment, strong commitment to compliance is essential.

Responsibilities

• Design and conduct internal audits of financial controls, compliance, and operational effectiveness
• Manage the audit schedule, including new accounts, account monitoring and validation, and procedure adherence
• Administer BSA/AML quality control and Customer Identification/Enhanced Due Diligence programs in line with regulatory guidance and best practices
• Write clear audit reports with actionable recommendations for management
• Track audit findings through to resolution
• Support external auditors and regulatory examiners
• Partner with managers, VPs, and staff to keep BSA/AML priorities on track
• Develop and recommend procedures as needed
• Stay current on regulatory trends, accounting principles, and audit techniques
• Take on special projects as assigned

Requirements

• 5+ years of BSA/AML compliance experience at a financial institution (BSA Investigator, Officer, or Analyst)
• Working knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act, USA PATRIOT Act, and OFAC regulations
• Experience conducting compliance, operational, or financial audits
• Understanding of deposit operations, lending, and consumer banking compliance
• Strong analytical and investigative skills with close attention to detail
• Ability to write clear, actionable audit reports
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and work with regulators, examiners, and legal counsel
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
• Ability to lift up to 25–30 lbs and sit at a computer for extended periods, with or without reasonable accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business
• Nationally recognized BSA certification (e.g., CAMS)
• Experience with Verafin and Symitar
• Cannabis banking or high-risk industry experience
