Overview
The organization is hiring its first Portfolio and Trading Specialist to own tax-aware implementation of investment strategies for households with significant taxable assets, concentrated and legacy positions, embedded gains, trusts, executive compensation, and customized Investment Policy Statement requirements.
This is a permanently remote role. Implementation strategies are determined by the Investment Committee and an outsourced Chief Investment Officer; this position is responsible for implementation from start to finish. Approximately 50 households are expected to qualify.
Responsibilities
- Execute household investment implementation at the individual tax lot level, working alongside experienced advisors who manage the client relationship.
- Build and carry out written, multi-year implementation strategies from transition through ongoing management, including:
- Concentrated and low-basis positions implementation aligned to each client’s capital gains budget
- Tax-loss harvesting with household-wide wash sale tracking
- Tax-aware rebalancing within defined bands
- Asset location across taxable, tax-deferred, and Roth accounts
- Multi-year tax-budgeted allocation transitions
- Prepare tax-aware transition plans before assets move for scenarios such as:
- Business sale
- Inheritance
- Retirement income
- Large withdrawals
- Perform firmwide trading support as implementation stabilizes, including:
- Trade ticket review and reconciliation across firm accounts on a defined cadence confirmed through capacity validation
- Error documentation and escalation
- Provider coordination
- Ensuring one accountable owner for trade details that protect every client
- Partner with advisors by providing implementation strategy documents and plain-language education for qualifying households, including proactive briefings when milestones, risks, or opportunities require attention.
- Maintain the operating documentation required to ensure continuity (procedures, household logs, and implementation records), documented to a standard that enables a successor to assume the role.
- Support a defined approach under pressure, including daily reconciliation that carries a deadline while household tax work does not, following the role specification on:
- What yields first when volume spikes
- Who covers priority needs
Requirements
- 7 to 10 years of experience in portfolio implementation, trading, or investment operations at a registered investment advisor, wealth manager, trust company, or asset manager.
- Hands-on experience with rebalancing and trading platforms (Orion Eclipse, Tamarac, iRebal, or similar) and major custodial platforms; Schwab and Fidelity strongly preferred.
- Working fluency in:
- Tax lot accounting
- Wash sale rules
- Capital gains management
- Tax-aware trading mechanics
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related field.
- Demonstrated documented-process mindset emphasizing accuracy, fairness, and efficiency over speed, with discipline to escalate rather than improvise.
- Series 65 or investment adviser representative registration.
- Employment is subject to the firm’s Code of Ethics, personal trading pre-clearance, outside business activity disclosure, and a background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- CFA, CIMA, or CFP (not required but encouraged).
- Experience hedging concentrated positions with covered calls, protective puts, or collars (valued as support for later-phase capability rather than first-year duty).
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $90K–120K
- Quarterly bonus plan tied to implementation quality, including:
- Plans completed and kept on schedule
- Error and exception rates
- Documentation completeness
- Plus firm performance
- Health care: firm pays 75 percent of the employee’s health care cost
- 401(k) with company match
- 20 days of paid time off plus additional firm holidays
