Overview

This role focuses on financial planning, analysis, and decision support for alternative power and energy costs across a global datacenter fleet. It involves modeling emerging commercial arrangements such as onsite generation, renewable power purchase agreements (PPAs), battery storage, and hedging structures. The position requires understanding electricity markets, power delivery infrastructure, and how commercial structures impact profit and loss and balance sheets.

Responsibilities

  • Own the alternative power and energy cost forecast across all regions, supporting monthly, quarterly, and annual planning cycles.
  • Build and maintain financial models for onsite power generation economics, including gas turbines, behind-the-meter configurations, and grid cost comparisons.
  • Analyze fixed-price and non-grid power arrangements, including long-term PPAs and tolling structures, assessing financial implications throughout contract lifecycles.
  • Develop unit economics ($/MWh, $/kW) by region, facility, and power source to support capacity planning and site selection.
  • Monitor wholesale electricity market dynamics (e.g., ERCOT and other ISOs) and translate trends into forecast assumptions and risk assessments.
  • Support financial planning for large campus buildouts by modeling power cost assumptions, phased capacity delivery, and ramp schedules.
  • Collaborate with upstream teams to validate volume inputs, challenge rate assumptions, and improve data quality.
  • Create scenario analyses for leadership to evaluate trade-offs related to rate changes, generation asset performance, and grid interconnection timelines.
  • Automate and enhance reporting and forecasting processes to increase efficiency and reliability.
  • Develop financial models comparing power sourcing strategies, including grid vs. off-grid, usage-based vs. fixed-price contracts, and hedged vs. unhedged exposure.
  • Model financial performance and cost implications of renewable energy procurement, including PPAs, renewable energy certificates (RECs), and carbon-free energy strategies.
  • Analyze energy rate forward curves across key markets to assess budget risks and opportunities, providing recommendations for procurement timing and strategy.
  • Develop energy cost models for new regions by analyzing local tariffs, wholesale market dynamics, and supply options.
  • Model economics of battery energy storage systems (BESS), including charge/discharge optimization and integration with onsite generation and grid supply.
  • Prepare financial presentations for business stakeholders and manage monthly and quarterly reporting schedules.
  • Participate in quarter-end close processes in collaboration with Finance, Operations, and Business teams.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in FP&A, strategic finance, energy finance, or infrastructure finance.
  • Experience in datacenter, cloud, utility, or power industries preferred but not required.
  • BS/BA in Accounting or Finance preferred; CPA or MBA is desired.
  • Strong financial modeling skills with the ability to operate with incomplete information and evolving commercial structures.
  • Ability to translate technical complexities (e.g., heat rates, capacity factors, interconnection timelines) into financial impacts.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a bias for action in a rapidly changing domain.
  • Clear and respectful communication skills, with the ability to challenge assumptions and advocate for forecast accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ERCOT, PJM, MISO, or other ISO/RTO wholesale market structures.
  • Familiarity with onsite generation technologies such as gas turbines, combined heat and power, and battery energy storage systems.
  • Understanding of cooling infrastructure economics and their relationship to power consumption (e.g., PUE, liquid cooling, rack density).
  • Experience with renewable energy procurement structures including PPAs, virtual PPAs, RECs, or carbon-free energy programs.
  • Experience analyzing energy forward curves, hedging strategies, or energy risk management frameworks.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range in the US: $84,500 - $178,100 per year.
  • Eligibility for bonus and equity.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision insurance, short and long-term disability, life insurance, supplemental life insurance, flexible spending accounts, pre-tax commuter and parking benefits.
  • 401(k) Savings and Investment Plan with company match.
  • Paid time off including flexible vacation or accrued vacation depending on eligibility, 11 paid holidays, 72 hours of paid sick leave annually, paid parental leave, and adoption assistance.
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
  • Financial planning and group legal services.
  • Voluntary benefits such as auto, homeowner, and pet insurance.
