Overview

A leading provider of outsourced virtual accounting services is seeking a Senior Controller to join their team. This leadership role involves managing a team while delivering high-quality controllership, advisory services, and strategic financial direction to multiple clients. The Senior Controller will help clients maintain accurate financials, implement internal controls, and provide actionable insights to support business growth and decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor an accounting team of 6 to 10 members, providing coaching, feedback, and performance reviews.
• Develop a deep understanding of each client’s business and accounting needs.
• Ensure clients’ internal control systems, policies, and procedures are consistently followed.
• Manage month-end closing processes and issue timely financial reports to clients.
• Partner with client leadership on operational and strategic decisions.
• Address client accounting requests, prioritize tasks, and delegate appropriately.
• Develop and maintain clients’ annual budgets and cash forecasting tools.
• Monitor budget performance and recommend adjustments.
• Create and review financial and operating metrics, including KPIs.
• Identify and report significant budget variances.
• Analyze financial and operational data to provide real-time recommendations.
• Identify trends, risks, and growth opportunities for clients.
• Conduct regular client conference calls to review strategy and financial results.
• Assist in gathering tax-related information for external tax preparation.
• Coordinate information provision for external audits.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements.
• Review and approve monthly and quarterly tax filings prepared by accounting specialists.
• Complete special projects as requested by clients.

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of supervisory experience in accounting.
• Experience in outsourced accounting services.
• Strong knowledge of accounting and financial analysis for businesses with revenues between $5M and $25M.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• CPA license, CMA, or MBA preferred.
• Adaptive leadership style with a passion for mentoring and team collaboration.
• Proven ability to manage accounting functions for small to medium-sized enterprises.
• Comfortable with change and able to pivot priorities quickly.
• Strong technical and analytical skills with creative problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Proficient with NetSuite and other accounting software; eagerness to learn new technologies.
• High computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Office (Outlook and Excel).
• Ability to make quick, informed decisions.
• Willingness to travel as necessary.
