Overview

This role involves owning the full revenue cycle end to end, from contract signing through invoicing, recognition, and cash collection. You will inherit a growing book of subscription and usage-based contracts and work with a billing system that is live but not yet fully optimized.

Responsibilities

  • Customer invoicing & billing: Own end-to-end billing for subscription, usage-based, and outcome-based contracts. Issue timely and accurate invoices, tie invoices to the signed order form, and manage billing schedules for upgrades, mid-term changes, renewals, credits, and true-ups.
  • Revenue reporting & recognition: Maintain revenue and deferred revenue schedules under ASC 606 across recurring and consumption-based models. Own month-end close journal entries for revenue, AR, and related accounts; prepare monthly reconciliations, roll-forwards, and variance analysis.
  • Revenue treatment support: Review new and modified contracts for proper revenue treatment, including standalone selling price allocation, contract modifications, and variable consideration. Document conclusions and partner with Sales on deal questions, including AI licensing and outcome-based pricing.
  • Commission capitalization & amortization: Own commission accrual and payout cycle in partnership with FP&A, Sales, and People Ops. Capitalize and amortize commissions and other costs to obtain a contract under ASC 340-40, and maintain supporting schedules.
  • Accounts receivable & collections: Be the primary contact for AR matters. Manage daily recording of cash receipts and application of payments, drive AR aging and collections to hit DSO, cash, and burn ratio targets, and run the collections cadence. Provide weekly, monthly, and ad hoc AR reporting and key metrics; escalate at-risk balances with Sales and Customer Success; maintain the allowance for credit losses.
  • Customer & cross-functional support: Serve as the front line for billing and invoicing questions from customers and internal teams. Partner with Sales, Deal Desk, and Legal during contract review; support FP&A with revenue and billing inputs for forecasting.
  • Systems & process improvement: Improve quote-to-cash flow across NetSuite and Tabs by replacing manual work with repeatable, documented processes. Maintain internal controls and provide audit-ready support, and serve as a key revenue contact for external auditors.

Requirements

  • Experience: 5+ years in revenue accounting, billing, or order-to-cash roles, including ownership of a monthly revenue close.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Industry expertise: Revenue accounting experience at a technology or SaaS company with recurring and usage-based revenue streams.
  • Technical skills:
    • Working knowledge of ASC 606 for subscription and usage-based revenue models, including deferred revenue, contract modifications, and variable consideration.
    • Familiarity with ASC 340-40 for commission capitalization and amortization is a plus.
  • Systems:
    • NetSuite proficiency, including familiarity with the Advanced Revenue Management module.
    • Hands-on experience with a dedicated billing platform required (ideally Tabs; comparable systems include Zuora, Ordway, Maxio, or Stripe Billing).
    • Advanced Excel and Google Sheets skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and high-volume reconciliation.
  • Professional background: CPA license preferred but not required.
  • Personal characteristics: Strong ownership mindset, curiosity, ability to navigate ambiguity, manage competing deadlines, and maintain accuracy with a consistent close timeline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working directly with customers on billing and invoicing questions.
