Overview
A remote contract opportunity is available for State and Local Taxation (SALT) experts to analyze and review AI-generated responses related to U.S. state and local tax issues. Compensation ranges from $100 to $150 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Analyze AI-generated content involving multi-state corporate income tax, sales and use tax, and pass-through entity tax scenarios.
- Evaluate model performance on tax issues including nexus, marketplace facilitator rules, and state conformity to federal tax law.
- Create and validate tax research questions, answer keys, and evaluation rubrics.
- Identify factual errors, technical inaccuracies, and incomplete legal analyses.
- Provide written feedback to improve AI model accuracy and legal-tax reasoning.
- Review complex cases involving conflicting state rules and evolving administrative guidance.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in State and Local Tax (SALT).
- Strong tax research skills utilizing primary authorities such as state statutes, regulations, administrative guidance, and case law.
- Excellent written communication and analytical reasoning abilities.
- Ability to review nuanced technical tax questions and clearly explain conclusions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced tax credentials such as CPA, JD, LLM (Tax), MST, or equivalent.
- Experience at a Big 4 accounting firm, national accounting firm, law firm, state revenue department, or corporate tax department.
- Deep expertise in nexus analysis, state corporate income and franchise taxes, multi-state apportionment, and sourcing.
