SALT Tax Compliance Senior Manager

Location: USA (Remote)

This role involves leading and managing state and local tax (SALT) compliance teams within a professional services environment. The position requires directing operational functions, planning and executing business strategies, coordinating activities across departments, and managing profit and loss responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have advanced tax knowledge, industry expertise, and strong leadership skills to maintain client and employee relations while delivering high-quality results.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and supervise multiple SALT compliance engagements simultaneously
• Serve as the main point of contact for clients, responding to tax authority notices and representing clients
• Research complex tax matters and clearly communicate findings
• Demonstrate superior technical competence in state and local tax compliance
• Identify and pursue new business development opportunities and assist in growing existing client services
• Provide leadership and set an example within the firm
• Develop employees' technical and project management skills
• Provide effective feedback to partners

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of state income tax compliance experience, with a focus on managing a state income tax compliance team
• Strong understanding of state tax concepts, including:
  • Nexus
  • State modifications
  • Apportionment
  • Combined reporting
  • Pass-through entity tax experience
  • Filing methods and elections
  • Pass-through entity tax (PTET)
  • Commercial and industrial (C&I) tax
• Experience reviewing and delivering complex multistate tax returns
• Proficiency with state tax technology, including CCH Axcess
• Advanced skills in Excel and data analysis
• Strong management, organizational, budgeting, and follow-through abilities
• Professional and client-facing experience
• Knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) is a plus

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $155,000 - $190,000
