Seasonal Tax Preparer

Overview

Seasonal Tax Preparer roles are available in multiple locations, including Rockford, IL. This is a seasonal, hourly position in the accounting category (Day shift) with negligible travel.

This role supports the Accounting and Business Advisory team during the busy tax season by preparing accurate federal and state tax returns for individual, corporate, partnership, and fiduciary clients. Work includes coordinating with tax professionals, advisors, and firm leadership to communicate clearly, address client needs, and ensure returns and supporting documentation are completed accurately and efficiently.

The seasonal term is January 2027 through April 30, 2027, with the option to work remotely or from an office.

Responsibilities

• Become familiar with firm policies and procedures
• Prepare federal and state tax returns for individual, corporation, partnership, and fiduciary clients
• Communicate clearly and timely with tax staff, advisors, and senior level management
• Use professional tax preparation, document management, and workflow software
• Develop and maintain skills in software used for tax preparation, paperless document storage, and workflow
• Manage client needs and requests; attend client meetings as needed
• Conduct tax research and develop research skills over time

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field from an accredited college or university (Accounting preferred)
• 2+ years of experience in individual tax preparation
• Strong organization and attention to detail
• Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Commitment to confidentiality
• Strong communication skills
• Experience reviewing returns preferred

Preferred Qualifications

• Pursuing or active CPA or EA license
• Experience reviewing returns

Compensation & Benefits

• Hourly pay range: $27.00–$40.00 per hour
• Actual compensation is determined individually and considers relevant experience, skills, qualifications, geographic location, and market conditions.
