A fast-growing clinical technology start-up focused on simplifying clinical trials is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their remote US-based team. This role combines core accounting responsibilities with operational innovation, emphasizing automation and scalable finance systems.
Responsibilities
Accounts Payable
- Manage the end-to-end accounts payable cycle with a focus on automation to reduce manual tasks in invoice processing, coding, approval routing, and payment disbursement.
- Develop and maintain workflows for aging and payment terms to proactively identify cash flow risks, incorporating automated alerts and escalation.
- Enforce scalable internal controls and approval hierarchies designed for audit readiness as transaction volume increases.
Invoicing & Accounts Receivable
- Oversee the entire invoicing process, automating generation and distribution across various contract types, billing schedules, and revenue streams.
- Lead collections efforts supported by automated follow-up sequences, prioritization of delinquent accounts, and exception-based escalation.
- Build and maintain accounts receivable reconciliation systems capable of handling high payment volumes across multiple processors with minimal manual intervention.
- Produce automated AR aging and collections reports, focusing human review on exceptions and strategic decisions.
- Maintain daily cash visibility through automated payment receipt reporting across all channels.
General Ledger & Financial Reporting
- Prepare and post journal entries for accruals, prepayments, depreciation, and recurring transactions, prioritizing automation of recurring entries.
- Maintain general ledger integrity, including account coding standards and period-end close accuracy.
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes with continuous improvement to accelerate and automate steps.
- Support financial statement preparation and variance analysis, moving toward self-serve and real-time reporting.
Reconciliation & Data Management
- Design and manage scalable reconciliation frameworks for bank accounts, payment processors, merchant accounts, and sub-ledgers.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies with a focus on automated detection to minimize manual discovery.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure data integrity between accounting and operational systems.
- Build monitoring and exception-handling processes for payment activity, flagging timing differences, failed transactions, and duplicates.
Finance Systems & Automation
- Drive finance automation strategy by identifying, prioritizing, and implementing automation opportunities across AP, AR, reconciliation, and reporting.
- Lead or co-lead evaluation and rollout of AI tools, automation platforms, and system integrations.
- Partner with finance and technology teams to implement intelligent solutions such as automated data extraction, anomaly detection, workflow orchestration, and reporting pipelines.
- Maintain documented, audit-ready automated processes ensuring controls keep pace with automation.
- Stay informed on emerging finance technologies and proactively recommend impactful solutions.
Requirements
- 4–7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in high-growth or operationally complex environments.
- Strong expertise in accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and month-end close processes.
- Hands-on experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, or similar.
- Proven ability to build or improve reconciliation frameworks for high-volume, multi-platform transactions.
- Practical experience with finance automation tools, AI-assisted workflows, or no-code/low-code platforms (e.g., Zapier, Make, Ramp, Brex, Vic.ai).
- Comfortable collaborating cross-functionally with operations and technology teams to implement system integrations.
- Advanced skills in Excel or Google Sheets; experience with Python, SQL, or BI platforms is a plus.
- CPA or CPA-track preferred but not required.
- Continuous improvement mindset with strong documentation and systems thinking.

Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range: $120,000 - $150,000
