Overview

This role supports day-to-day accounting and finance operations for an international, fast-growing organization operating 100% remotely across Europe. The work involves managing bookkeeping preparation, expense and invoice allocation, travel expense rules across countries, and coordination with external experts for ongoing bookkeeping, annual financial statements, and German payroll.

The position works closely with the Head of Finance (controlling, forecasting, and reporting) and an external tax advisor, and includes interfacing with local payroll providers for employees across multiple countries.

Responsibilities

  • Preparatory bookkeeping: Pre-code receipts and prepare them for ongoing bookkeeping by the external tax advisor.
  • Receipt and invoice management: Collect receipts and incoming invoices, review them, and consistently follow up on open items.
  • Correct allocation: Ensure expenses are assigned to the correct cost center and correct account in the chart of accounts.
  • Travel expenses across Europe: Manage per diems (meal allowances), mileage allowances, and comparable expense rules across countries for teams in Europe.
  • Employees & freelancers across Europe: Maintain Europe-wide controlling and accounting understanding for both employees and freelancers, or ramp up quickly as needed.
  • International payroll interface: Coordinate with local payroll providers and manage salary payments.
  • Cash flow: Contribute to cash flow structures and reporting and keep them up to date.
  • Process setup: Independently design and set up finance processes and structures in an international, growing environment (especially where established processes are not yet in place).

Requirements

  • 4+ years of professional experience in finance & accounting.
  • German: fluent professional level (C1/C2), including German accounting and tax terminology.
  • English: at least B1.
  • DATEV: very good skills, with solid understanding of the chart of accounts and correct account assignment.
  • Tool flexibility: ability to quickly learn and work with other systems (e.g., Odoo).
  • Ownership: experience owning finance and accounting topics end-to-end without day-to-day guidance.
  • Decision-making in ambiguity: comfortable working in gray areas and making good decisions even without complete information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed commercial vocational training or a degree with a focus on finance, accounting, or controlling.
  • Understanding of how a balance sheet should be structured to be meaningful for investors—ideally gained through experience in a tax advisory firm or similar environment.
  • Exposure to controlling topics such as cost centers, forecasts, or project margins.
  • Motivated, proactive, and creative personality with a hands-on mentality—interested in shaping and building rather than only administering.

Compensation & Benefits

  • 100% remote work in an international team.

Location

  • Remote (Europe-wide work; organization based in Munich).
