Overview

This position is a local remote role requiring candidates to live within 2.5 hours of the greater Milwaukee area. The role involves preparing community financial statements and assisting with external financial reporting. Responsibilities

  • Prepare community financial statements and assist in external financial reporting.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger by applying generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Assist and train less experienced accountants.
  • Complete balance sheet and bank account reconciliations by established deadlines; research and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Review cost center and chart of account structures; recommend improvements to identify expenses accurately and control expenditures.
  • Prepare, verify, and control journal entries to the general ledger.
  • Evaluate subsidiary journals for errors and omissions; enter corrected data.
  • Execute monthly closing entries and general ledger closing by cost center and natural account.
  • Review monthly balance sheet and profit-and-loss statements for accuracy.
  • Coordinate monthly closing and statement production to ensure timely reporting.
  • Review and enhance online financial statements to accurately reflect financial position.
  • Update monthly closing procedures.
  • Review supporting subsidiary schedules to ensure compliance with accounting practices; make recommendations.
  • Document processes and assist in maintaining accounting policies and procedures.
  • Prepare audit schedules and respond to auditor requests during financial, SOX, or other audits.
  • Monitor and track cash outflows; provide updates to management.
  • Interact with field personnel to explain monthly operating activity, investigate variances, provide charge details, and book reclassification entries.
  • Correspond with third-party financial institutions and regulatory bodies.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Three to five years of related experience.

Certifications and Licenses

  • None required.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of accounting functions and a thorough understanding of the organizational environment.
  • Working knowledge of a functional discipline.
  • Ability to apply existing guidelines and procedures to make varied decisions within the department.
  • Sound judgment and experience to solve moderately complex problems.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl.
  • Ability to talk and hear.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires interaction with co-workers, residents, or vendors.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base pay is determined by skills and experience.
