Overview
A growing firm specializing in financial analysis, marketing expertise, and accounting support for the real estate sector is seeking a Senior Accountant – Property Accounting. The organization serves private equity investors, developers, fund managers, brokers, and other industry leaders, handling diverse real estate transactions across the United States and European markets with deal sizes typically ranging from $25 million to over $500 million USD.
Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for real estate properties in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Assist in the preparation of annual property budgets and forecasts; monitor budget variances and provide detailed analysis and explanations.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledger entries for all property-related transactions, including rent, expenses, accruals, and capital expenditures.
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes for property transactions, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely processing.
- Prepare and review annual Common Area Maintenance (CAM) reconciliations in line with lease agreements and industry standards.
- Assist in property tax filings and coordinate with external tax consultants to ensure compliance.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and responding to auditor queries.
- Perform in-depth financial analysis including variance analysis, trend analysis, ROI evaluation, and identifying performance insights.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and control within the property accounting function.
Requirements
- CA qualified (most preferred).
- Minimum 4+ years of accounting experience, with relevant experience in property accounting.
- Minimum 1+ year of hands-on Yardi experience (must-have).
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency in Yardi and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
