Senior Accountant (Trading)

Overview

A data-driven organization specializing in algorithmic trading strategies is seeking a Senior Accountant. The team consists of scientists, mathematicians, and physicists who develop systematic trading strategies based on rigorous academic research.

This role involves sole responsibility for general accounting oversight and PNL reconciliation within the firm. The position can be remote (candidates must be based in Canada or the US, specifically Texas or Arizona) or located in an office in Chandler, AZ.

Responsibilities

• Full ownership of the accounting function, including maintaining books, records, and internal controls using Xero.
• Manage the monthly PNL reconciliation process, identifying and resolving discrepancies to ensure accurate and well-supported financials.
• Review and approve all supplier invoices, focusing on cost control and resolving any discrepancies.
• Manage payroll for US and Canadian employees using ADP, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Ensure accounting records and internal controls are audit-ready.
• Oversee all money-related activities, including bank account management, transfers, and related HR financial tasks.

Requirements

• Prior accounting experience within a hedge fund or alternative investment fund environment.
• Hands-on experience managing the general ledger independently without oversight.
• Proven ability to reconcile internal PNL to external party calculations.
• Strong skills in identifying and resolving discrepancies confidently, including advocating positions with external parties supported by clear data.
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, capable of maintaining productive working relationships with direct and firm communication.
• Proficiency or ability to quickly learn Xero and ADP payroll systems for both US and Canada.
• Comfortable working as the sole finance professional without backup or team support.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $100,000 - $135,000 annually
• Annual performance-based bonus eligibility

• 401(k)/RRSP matching up to 9% (maximum annual contribution of $13,250)
