Overview
This part-time Engagement Quality Reviewer role supports the National Attest Office by reviewing engagements under PCAOB standards, with a primary focus on Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC) engagements.
The reviewer will assist the National EQR group in evaluating financial statements, audit workpapers, and related engagement documentation for compliance with PCAOB standards, SEC reporting and independence requirements, applicable AICPA standards, and firm policies, procedures, and best practices.
Responsibilities
- Perform engagement quality reviews for engagements under PCAOB standards, with focus on audit quality, technical compliance, SEC and PCAOB reporting considerations, and alignment with firm methodology and policies.
- Review PCAOB-related financial statements, workpapers, significant accounting and auditing conclusions, and supporting documentation for compliance with professional standards and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with engagement teams and designated EQR leadership to communicate review observations, resolve open items in a timely manner, and support completion of seasonal filing deadlines.
- Provide technical input on audit and reporting matters, including PCAOB standards, SEC rules and regulations, auditor independence, and firm consultation requirements.
- Document EQR conclusions clearly and consistently in accordance with firm requirements and applicable professional standards.
- Identify recurring engagement review themes and communicate potential quality improvement opportunities to NAO or EQR leadership, as appropriate.
- Comply with professional and firm requirements, including confidentiality obligations related to client information, proposal information, personnel information, job-related information, and other confidential materials.
- Attend and participate in relevant meetings and training sessions.
- Maintain required CPE for firm and licensing standards.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with others.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of public accounting experience, with significant audit experience serving public companies, SPACs, SEC registrants, or PCAOB-inspected engagements.
- Prior experience as an engagement quality reviewer (for private and public entities), concurring reviewer, national office reviewer, or equivalent technical review role.
- Advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP, PCAOB standards, and SEC reporting requirements.
- Experience with pre- and post-SPAC IPOs (registration statements, comfort letters, and quarterly/annual public filings), de-SPAC transactions (including registration statements and related audit/review considerations).
- Familiarity with complex financial instruments, including fair value considerations relating to financial instruments and other accounting matters commonly arising in SPAC engagements.
- Strong analytical ability and critical thinking; completes assigned tasks with professionalism and integrity.
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with a diverse group of individuals.
- High degree of professionalism and ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, innovative, and continuously changing environment.
- Availability to work extended hours during peak SPAC filing periods, including weekdays and weekends, as necessary.
