Overview

This role oversees day-to-day financial operations and serves as a trusted strategic partner to the CEO. The ideal candidate maintains accurate, efficient financial operations while identifying risks, anticipating challenges, and uncovering opportunities for growth. You will be expected to take initiative, bring practical solutions, and confidently challenge assumptions when financial data, market conditions, or operational realities indicate a different approach.

Responsibilities

  • Own the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring accurate, timely, and audit-ready financial statements.
  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including A/P, A/R, payroll coordination, reconciliations, and internal controls.
  • Build and maintain rolling budgets, forecasts, and cash flow models that reflect business realities.
  • Partner directly with the CEO on strategic and operational decisions, providing clear financial analysis and a point of view.
  • Proactively identify financial risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities across the business, and recommend solutions.
  • Challenge assumptions and decisions when the numbers don’t support them, including respectfully disagreeing with leadership.
  • Oversee compliance, tax filings, and relationships with external accountants, auditors, and financial institutions.
  • Develop dashboards and reports that provide leadership visibility into margins, cash position, and unit economics.
  • Support pricing, vendor, and cost-structure decisions using rigorous, big-picture financial analysis.
  • Help build scalable financial processes and systems as the organization grows.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, including experience at the Controller level or above.
  • Big-picture mindset that connects financial data to business strategy.
  • Solutions-first approach: propose ways to fix issues, not just report them.
  • Confidence and diplomacy to push back on the CEO or leadership when the data warrants it.
  • Strong technical accounting foundation (GAAP, close processes, internal controls) combined with strategic financial acumen.
  • Comfort operating in a lean, fast-moving environment where you own both the details and the strategy.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain financial complexity to non-finance stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in consumer products, CPG, or another product-based business.
  • CPA and/or MBA (preferred; not required if experience demonstrates equivalent capability).
