Overview
The organization is seeking an experienced Senior Controller / Strategic Financial Advisor to oversee day-to-day financial operations and serve as a trusted strategic partner to the CEO. This role combines strong month-end and year-end close execution with the ability to look beyond the numbers—identifying risks, anticipating challenges, and uncovering opportunities for growth.
Responsibilities
- Own the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring accurate, timely, and audit-ready financial statements.
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations including A/P, A/R, payroll coordination, reconciliations, and internal controls.
- Build and maintain rolling budgets, forecasts, and cash flow models that reflect the realities of the business (not optimistic assumptions).
- Partner directly with the CEO on strategic and operational decisions, providing clear financial analysis and a point of view—not just data.
- Proactively identify financial risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities across the business, and bring recommended solutions.
- Challenge assumptions and decisions when the numbers don’t support them, including when it means disagreeing with leadership.
- Oversee compliance, tax filings, and relationships with external accountants, auditors, and financial institutions.
- Develop dashboards and reports that provide leadership visibility into margins, cash position, and unit economics.
- Support pricing, vendor, and cost-structure decisions with rigorous, big-picture financial analysis.
- Help build scalable financial processes and systems as the organization grows.
Requirements & Qualifications
- 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, including experience at the Controller level or above.
- Big-picture mentality—able to connect financial data to business strategy.
- Solutions-first approach—propose ways to fix issues, not only report problems.
- Confidence and diplomacy to push back on the CEO or leadership when the data warrants it.
- Strong technical accounting foundation (GAAP, close processes, internal controls) paired with strategic financial acumen.
- Comfort operating in a lean, fast-moving environment where the role owns both details and strategy.
- Excellent communication skills—able to translate financial complexity into clear guidance for non-finance stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in consumer products, CPG, or a similar product-based business.
- CPA and/or MBA (preferred but not required if experience demonstrates equivalent capability).
