Overview
This role supports day-to-day financial operations and serves as a trusted strategic partner to the CEO. The Senior Controller / Strategic Financial Advisor will ensure accurate, efficient month-end and year-end closes while also looking beyond the numbers to identify risks, anticipate challenges, and uncover opportunities for growth. The position requires initiative, practical problem-solving, and confidence to challenge assumptions respectfully when financial data, market conditions, or operational realities indicate a different approach.
Responsibilities
- Own the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring accurate, timely, and audit-ready financial statements.
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations including A/P, A/R, payroll coordination, reconciliations, and internal controls.
- Build and maintain rolling budgets, forecasts, and cash flow models reflecting business realities rather than optimistic assumptions.
- Partner directly with the CEO on strategic and operational decisions, providing clear financial analysis and a point of view.
- Proactively identify financial risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities across the business, and bring recommended solutions.
- Challenge assumptions and decisions when the numbers don’t support them, including when disagreeing with leadership.
- Oversee compliance, tax filings, and relationships with external accountants, auditors, and financial institutions.
- Develop dashboards and reports that provide leadership visibility into margins, cash position, and unit economics.
- Support pricing, vendor, and cost-structure decisions with rigorous, big-picture financial analysis.
- Help build scalable financial processes and systems as the organization grows.
Requirements & Qualifications
- 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, including experience at the Controller level or above.
- Big-picture mindset with the ability to connect financial data to business strategy.
- Solutions-first approach—proposing ways to fix issues rather than only reporting them.
- Confidence and diplomacy to push back on the CEO or leadership when the data warrants it.
- Strong technical accounting foundation (GAAP, close processes, internal controls) combined with strategic financial acumen.
- Comfortable operating in a lean, fast-moving environment where you own both details and strategy.
- Excellent communication skills, able to translate financial complexity into clear guidance for non-finance stakeholders.
