Overview

The organization is seeking an experienced Senior Controller / Strategic Financial Advisor to oversee day-to-day financial operations while serving as a trusted strategic partner to the CEO. This role requires maintaining accurate, efficient financial operations and using financial analysis to identify risks, anticipate challenges, and uncover growth opportunities. The ideal candidate takes initiative, provides practical solutions, and can confidently challenge assumptions when financial data, market conditions, or operational realities call for a different approach.

Responsibilities

  • Own the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring accurate, timely, and audit-ready financial statements.
  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including A/P, A/R, payroll coordination, reconciliations, and internal controls.
  • Build and maintain rolling budgets, forecasts, and cash flow models that reflect the realities of the business.
  • Partner directly with the CEO on strategic and operational decisions, providing clear financial analysis and a point of view.
  • Proactively identify financial risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities across the business; bring recommended solutions.
  • Challenge assumptions and decisions when financial results do not support them, including when disagreeing with leadership.
  • Oversee compliance, tax filings, and relationships with external accountants, auditors, and financial institutions.
  • Develop dashboards and reports that provide visibility into margins, cash position, and unit economics.
  • Support pricing, vendor, and cost-structure decisions with rigorous, big-picture financial analysis.
  • Help build scalable financial processes and systems as the organization grows.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, including experience at the Controller level or above.
  • Big-picture mindset; ability to connect financial data to business strategy.
  • Solutions-first approach; focus on proposing fixes rather than only reporting problems.
  • Confidence and diplomacy to push back on the CEO or leadership when the data warrants it.
  • Strong technical accounting foundation, including GAAP, close processes, and internal controls, paired with strategic financial acumen.
  • Comfort operating in a lean, fast-moving environment where the role owns both details and strategy.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to translate financial complexity into clear guidance for non-finance stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in consumer products, CPG, or a similar product-based business.
  • CPA and/or MBA preferred (not required if experience demonstrates equivalent capability).
