Senior Manager, Affirm Bank Accounting (Controller)

Overview

This role involves serving as the Bank Controller for a bank in formation. The organization is building out foundational accounting and regulatory reporting capabilities to support operational launch and ongoing compliance.

The Bank Controller will report to the Bank CFO and lead day-to-day operational duties for the bank accounting team, including managing the general ledger and daily operational flows, integrating accounting systems and processes, and developing the regulatory function.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead the bank accounting team by providing strategic direction, recruiting, and coaching as the function is established
• Partner cross-functionally as a primary liaison with internal teams to ensure effective service delivery under the Intercompany Program Agreement while maintaining independent oversight required for a regulated banking entity
• Oversee monthly financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, ensuring timely completion and submission
• Establish and manage regulatory oversight by building a controlled regulatory reporting function to ensure timely and accurate preparation of required filings, including:
  • FFIEC 041 Call Reports
  • Part 363 Annual Reports
  • Federal Reserve reporting
• Coordinate annual audit activities with external auditors for completion of the annual bank financial statement audit
• Drive process automation and tooling improvements by working with engineering and product teams to evaluate, improve, and implement tools that support accounting and reporting automation
• Support strategic analysis and special projects including financial analysis and other required initiatives

Requirements

• Accounting designation such as CPA or CA
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in Accounting, Finance, or Treasury-related areas
• Minimum 5 years of people management experience
• Experience building appropriate tools and processes and scaling an Accounting team in a similar industry
• Extensive knowledge of GAAP and regulatory reporting
• Proven experience in analysis, cash management, and modeling
• Extremely detail oriented with strong critical thinking skills
• Strategic, goal-driven and focused with a “can-do” attitude

Compensation & Benefits

Base pay range (per year):

• USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT): $185,000 - $245,000
• USA base pay range (all other U.S. states): $164,000 - $224,000

Location

Remote-first role with flexibility to work almost anywhere within the country of employment, with occasional requirements to work from an assigned office for proximal roles.
