Overview
The Indirect Tax Senior Manager is responsible for managing sales & use and property tax calculations and compliance, escheatment reporting and compliance, tax audits, tax account reconciliations, tax engine administration and system management, and tax research.
The preferred location for this role is San Antonio or elsewhere in Texas, as the Tax team reports to the office 1-3 times a week. Candidates from any US-based location may be considered for remote work.
Responsibilities
- Review sales & use and property tax calculations and coordinate with external tax advisors.
- Oversee data collection efforts of the internal team.
- Investigate and prepare responses to notices and inquiries from various taxing authorities.
- Perform tax research and analysis to provide recommended solutions and prepare written documentation supporting tax positions.
- Manage or assist with tax audits as needed.
- Assist with determining the taxability of new products and services, including updating Vertex to support new products.
- Review calculations for journal entry postings and account reconciliations.
- Continuously develop technical knowledge of applicable tax laws and regulations.
Knowledge and Skills
- Working knowledge of general sales, use, and property tax provisions (not state-specific).
- Knowledge of tax provisions related to online services is a plus.
- Understanding of tax and accounting calculations and preparation of supporting work papers.
- General knowledge of SEC and IRS reporting requirements.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a project team with minimal supervision.
- Strong tax technical research and analytical skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong attention to accuracy and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent follow-up skills to ensure issues are resolved.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with Oracle, Vertex, and Avalara preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

- Experience managing outsourced providers for sales and property tax compliance.

Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline required.
- Master's degree preferred.
Certifications
- CPA or equivalent preferred.
Experience
- 8 to 10 years of relevant work experience required.
- Minimum of 2 years of direct people management experience required.
- ERP experience is a plus.
- Experience in Public Accounting, Big 4, or Corporate Accounting preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $132,149.00/year to $193,856.30/year depending on geographic market.
- Pay is based on factors including market location, knowledge, skills, and experience.
- Compensation package may include annual bonuses, incentives, equity awards, and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
Location
- Preferred: San Antonio or Texas (office attendance 1-3 times per week).
