Overview

This role is part of the accounting transition team, supporting acquisitions and ongoing clean-up for network companies. You will step in to make inherited general ledger and accounting processes GAAP-ready, then transition ownership of the month-end close and accounting workflow to the ongoing GL and AP teams.

The position is remote with 30–40% travel expected. Must reside in the US.

Responsibilities

  • Clean up payroll/benefits liabilities and expenses, accruals, deferred revenue, AP, ST/LT liabilities, prepaids, inventory, customer deposits, and chart-of-accounts mapping before handoff to the ongoing team.
  • Serve as primary G/L accountant for multiple network companies during transition.
  • Determine and implement accounting entries including accruals, reserves, reclasses, and intercompany entries.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts including cash, credit cards, fixed assets, tax liabilities, payroll liabilities, and related accounts.
  • Assist with GL/ERP migrations, system integrations, and testing.
  • Map legacy charts of accounts onto the standardized chart of accounts.
  • Configure the GL/account structure (segments, dimensions, reporting hierarchy) to support efficient, useful reporting.
  • Identify improvements from ERP-driven changes and accrual/estimation process updates that can shorten the month-end close.
  • Review inventory processes and COGS recognition to align with how the business recognizes revenue.
  • Clean up inherited reporting and accrual calculations to establish reliable baselines.
  • Keep books audit-ready throughout the transition, not only at handoff.
  • Support audit, tax, and due-diligence requests with documentation and digital audit trails.
  • Identify control and process gaps before they become audit findings.
  • Automate manual, siloed, and disconnected processes so improvements scale to future transitions.
  • Coach onsite finance leads on AR standard practices, including payment application and collections hygiene.
  • Modernize and streamline AP tools and workflows (including bill.com and Charted), tighten credit-card transaction syncing and coding/approval processes, and coordinate payment releases.
  • Sync and reconcile cash, credit cards, and payroll to the correct GL accounts.
  • Train onsite staff on new workflows and close responsibilities.
  • Document SOPs and training materials and participate in recurring knowledge-transfer sessions.
  • Hand off month-end close responsibilities cleanly to the ongoing team.
  • Partner with controllers and GL/accounting stakeholders to keep systems and data in sync.

Requirements

  • GAAP-focused general ledger accounting experience.
  • Ability to support multiple network companies in transition as the primary GL accountant.
  • Strong month-end close execution with attention to accuracy and quality.
  • Experience reconciling cash, credit cards, fixed assets, tax liabilities, payroll liabilities, and related balance sheet accounts.
  • Familiarity with AR payment application and collections hygiene.
  • Ability to map and align legacy charts of accounts to a standardized chart of accounts.
  • Experience supporting systems, ERP, and integrations (including testing).
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with frequent technological and process changes.
  • High frustration tolerance and persistence in resolving complex accounting puzzles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience transitioning inherited accounting books/janitorial accounting and converting spreadsheet/manual processes into scalable, automated workflows.
  • Experience with audit readiness throughout a transition period, including supporting audit and due-diligence requests.
  • Experience documenting SOPs and training onsite teams.

  • Medical, Dental, Vision, FSA/HSA
  • 100% paid for employee (and dependents on most plans)
  • 15 days of vacation time plus paid time off for 19 holidays, 5 sick days, and one floating holiday of your choice
