Staff Accountant I, Journal Entry Posting

Overview

A healthcare organization operating across 29 states is seeking a Staff Accountant I, Journal Entry Posting to support financial operations for multiple healthcare facilities. The organization manages a diverse network including community hospitals, rehabilitation and behavioral health hospitals, outpatient centers, and post-acute care facilities. This role is integral to ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting during the month-end close process.

Responsibilities

• Post and review journal entries for assigned facilities during month-end close.
• Ensure timely submission and accurate posting of entries with appropriate approvals.
• Monitor facilities for errors or missing information and coordinate resolutions.
• Support approximately five facilities, adjusting workload based on volume and close cycle.
• Collaborate with site liaison teams and accounting groups to resolve queries.
• Assist with month-end close activities, including meeting deadlines and working extended hours when necessary.
• Review entries for accuracy and accounting validity.
• Communicate professionally with stakeholders, managing follow-up and addressing pushback.
• Support additional accounting tasks during non-close periods, including balance sheet activities.
• Identify and propose process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce errors.
• Assist team members to foster a collaborative environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
• Entry-level candidates are considered; prior accounting experience is preferred.
• Prior journal entry experience is a plus.
• Healthcare accounting experience is not required; training will be provided.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Strong communication skills to resolve issues with various stakeholders.
• Initiative and willingness to ask questions and support team efforts.
• Basic understanding of accounting concepts including debits and credits preferred.
• Comfort with learning accounting systems and reporting tools.
• Availability for standard business hours with extended hours during close periods.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $51,611 - $69,675 per year.
