Overview

The organization is seeking a Strategic Finance Manager to build the analysis that supports key capital allocation decisions. This role reports to the VP of Finance and partners with functional leaders across the organization, working closely with the CFO and founders.

Responsibilities

Own the operating model and forecasting cycle

  • Own the driver-based operating model for the base business and expand it as new insurance products and business lines launch.
  • Run the annual budget and long-range planning process end to end, including cadence, assumptions, stakeholder inputs, and the consolidated plan the executive team commits to.
  • Own the monthly and quarterly forecast cycle and variance analysis—explain what moved against plan and prior period, why it moved, and what it means for the forecast after Accounting closes the books.
  • Write executive narratives translating financial results into clear business insights for the CFO, founders, board, and investors.
  • Lead monthly business reviews with functional leaders to turn what the numbers show into business decisions.
  • Support evaluation and implementation of a planning system: assess options, make recommendations, and own the rollout.

Build the financial case for new opportunities

  • Build financial models for new products, verticals, channels, or partnerships: size the market, model economics, and evaluate capital commitment and return profile.
  • Read results back against the case by comparing actual economics to what was underwritten once something is live.
  • Monitor product and channel economics, including CAC and payback, policy retention and lifetime value, contribution margin, and related metrics.
  • Support corporate development workstreams as needed, including diligence, modeling, and transaction analysis.
  • Help refine frameworks used to compare build, buy, or partner decisions and return profiles.

Underwrite vendor spend

  • Build business cases before commitments are made, support negotiation on terms, and provide budget owners visibility to manage their own numbers.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of relevant experience, ideally combining:
    • 2+ years at a reputable investment bank, corporate development group, or private equity firm; and
    • 2+ years in strategic finance or FP&A at a high-growth company.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a similarly quantitative field.
  • Strong financial modeling skills, including:
    • driver-based operating models
    • three-statement mechanics
    • scenario and sensitivity analysis
    • working command of accounting concepts and GAAP
  • Experience with unit economics in a consumer or marketplace business, including CAC, LTV, payback, cohort retention, and contribution margin.
  • Track record of translating complex analysis into a clear narrative for executive or investor audiences.
  • Startup or high-growth experience strongly preferred, including building financial processes from scratch.
  • Hands-on fluency with AI tools for analysis, research, and workflow automation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Insurance, insurtech, fintech, or marketplace experience.
  • CFA certification.
  • Vendor negotiation or procurement exposure.
  • Finance tech stack experience (NetSuite, Ramp, planning tools).

  • Starting pay will fall within the pay range listed on this job posting, determined based on job-related factors including skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions.
