Overview
This Tax Associate role is part of a team-of-experts model delivering Full-Service Tax Preparation and Assisted Tax Support to client TurboTax customers. In this role, you serve as the front-office face of the engagement—providing advisory support and relationship skills—while also validating the accuracy and compliance of returns prepared by back-office preparers.
Although strong tax knowledge is essential, this position is primarily a customer-service and review role. You will guide and reassure customers, and you will review and sign work you did not personally prepare.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary point of contact across the engagement, including:
- Welcome call
- Proactive outreach when a customer goes quiet
- Client review call
- Delivering the final outcome to the customer
- Perform signer review of returns prepared by the back office:
- Validate accuracy and compliance
- Catch items that may have been missed
- Be willing to sign and file work you did not personally prepare
- Produce clear, structured “Notes to Preparer” documentation (written handoffs another expert can act on directly)
- Communicate with customers using client video, audio, and digital tools—translating tax outcomes into understandable guidance
- Assist customers with product and software inquiries, helping them navigate TurboTax tools
- Use empathy, professionalism, and tax expertise to create high-quality customer interactions
- Research using government resources, professional tax tools, and internal team knowledge to provide accurate answers in plain, customer-friendly language
- Support the success of roles across the chain (front office, back office, and quality review) as returns are a shared team outcome
- Apply established procedures, policies, and best practices to troubleshoot and resolve tax-related questions
- Document all customer interactions thoroughly and accurately in accordance with company standards
- Work toward meeting or exceeding company KPI metrics, including quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction
Required Qualifications
- Must reside and work within the United States (no exceptions)
- Comfort and confidence reviewing, validating, and signing tax returns prepared by another preparer (this role is a reviewer role, not a solo-practitioner role)
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, structured handoff documentation that another expert can act on without ambiguity (e.g., Notes to Preparer)
- Minimum two seasons of paid tax preparation experience, with at least 30 completed returns per season (preparation and/or review experience)
- Valid PTIN for the 2027 filing year
- Strong knowledge of tax laws and tax concepts, with familiarity with Form 1040 and associated schedules
- Demonstrated advisory and relationship-building skills; ability to translate tax outcomes into clear, understandable guidance for customers
- Ability to collaborate within a team to ensure accurate and timely tax return preparation
- Excellent research skills, including the ability to quickly locate reliable information using online resources
- Comfortable using audio/virtual communication tools to interact with customers professionally

- Must schedule and work a minimum of 20 hours per week (Monday–Sunday); weekend-only schedules are not available
- College degree preferred; ideal backgrounds include business, finance, accounting, or taxation

- Benefits:
- Eligibility for medical, dental, and vision benefits (after 30 days of work)
