Overview

This role is part of the organization’s National Tax practice within the Trust & Estate Tax team. The position focuses on Trust & Estate work, with potential support on 1040/1041-related matters.

This is a hybrid-remote role. While duties do not require work performed within proximity of an office location, remote employees may be required to attend an office with scheduled notice for client work, team meetings, or trainings.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret wills and trust agreements for tax-relevant provisions
  • Review complex gift, estate, and fiduciary income tax returns
  • Review fiduciary accountings for trusts and estates
  • Provide wealth transfer tax planning and tax consulting to ultra high net worth clients
  • Research and consult on estate, gift, and fiduciary income tax-related issues, including:
    • State trust residency and taxation
    • Grantor trust toggling
    • GST tax implications
    • Pre- and post-mortem tax optimization
  • Identify and help generate opportunities within existing clients and pursue new clients
  • Manage all aspects of client relationships
  • Manage a team of professionals to complete engagements from start to finish

Requirements

  • Active CPA license in at least one State
  • Master in Tax is a plus
  • LLM or JD is preferred
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive tax experience with trusts and estates and high net worth clients
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience, preferably in a public accounting firm
  • Strong tax research skills
  • Ability to lead, manage, and develop staff in a highly interactive team environment
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (verbal and written)

Compensation & Benefits

  • In Illinois, the salary range for a National Tax Senior Manager is $160,000 to $230,000.
