Overview

A growing construction company is seeking a Controller to provide financial leadership and precision as the business scales across California. This full-time, remote role offers direct access to executive leadership and the opportunity to influence key financial decisions. The position requires U.S. residency and offers a competitive salary range of $70,000 to $80,000+ annually, depending on experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform expert-level bookkeeping and weekly reconciliations using QuickBooks Desktop to maintain accurate financial records.
• Manage payroll and commission processes through Fingercheck and MyBBSI, ensuring timely and accurate compensation for field teams.
• Analyze job costing and material purchases to identify discrepancies and improve project profitability in the residential sector.
• Oversee vendor relationships and insurance renewals to secure competitive pricing and maintain operational accountability.
• Ensure corporate compliance by filing business licenses, permit renewals, and vehicle registrations on schedule.
• Develop weekly financial planning models and cost analyses to support data-driven growth decisions by the executive team.
• Streamline internal administrative systems and electronic filing to enhance transparency and operational efficiency.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of professional accounting or controller-level experience.
• Expert proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop is mandatory.
• Strong technical skills in Excel and Google Sheets for complex financial modeling.
• Ability to work independently, managing high-volume workloads and meeting deadlines without constant supervision.
• Effective professional communication skills, capable of interfacing with all levels of the organization from field crews to executives.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Experience in construction, trades, or field-service accounting.
• Familiarity with payroll and expense tracking platforms such as Fingercheck, MyBBSI, or Expensify.
