Overview

This volunteer opportunity involves providing an independent CPA Financial Review Report to meet mandatory New York State charitable solicitation compliance (Form CHAR500) for the 2024 and 2025 tax years. The organization’s gross revenue exceeded New York's $250,000 threshold due to large fiscal sponsorship pass-through grants, requiring a formal, limited-assurance financial review to maintain legal fundraising status.

Responsibilities

  • Review pre-compiled 2024 and 2025 financial statements including Balance Sheets, Statement of Activities, and General Ledger.
  • Perform limited analytical procedures and inquiries standard for a nonprofit financial review.
  • Draft and sign an Independent Accountant’s Review Report compliant with New York Charities Bureau regulations.

Requirements

  • Licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  • Ability to conduct a limited assurance financial review.
  • Experience with nonprofit financial statements and compliance preferred.

Commitment

  • Estimated total time commitment: 3 to 6 hours.
  • Weekly commitment: 2–5 hours.
  • No bookkeeping, data entry, or cleanup required; financial data is fully reconciled and professionally managed.

Additional Information

The organization is currently facing financial challenges due to the loss of a major sponsor and limited operational cash flow. The annual gross revenue is high because of fiscal sponsorship pass-through grants, but operational funds are minimal. This volunteer role is critical to unlocking the ability to legally resume fundraising and secure new grants in New York State.

The financial data is managed by a national nonprofit bookkeeping and compliance agency, which will handle all data entry, state portal submission, and final CHAR500 filing after the review report is signed.

The Executive Director will serve as the direct point of contact throughout the project.
