Accounting Specialist

Overview

An organization specializing in direct response marketing and advertising for nonprofits is seeking an Accounting Specialist to join their finance team. This remote role supports key accounting operations including general ledger activities, month-end close, reconciliations, tax compliance, and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

• Assist with monthly close activities and prepare journal entries related to fixed assets, inventory, expense accruals and deferrals, rent, and lease accounting
• Prepare and reconcile assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts
• Support expense allocations and departmental coding
• Provide assistance with variance analysis and internal financial reporting
• Participate in transitioning additional accounting responsibilities over time
• Assist with sales and use tax filings and maintain organized tax records
• Support preparation of 1099 filings and year-end reporting requirements
• Research and help resolve tax-related issues in coordination with external advisors
• Ensure compliance with filing deadlines, audit requests, and regulatory requirements
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies
• Explore and adopt AI and technology solutions related to accounting and finance operations

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred
• 1–3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience preferred
• Understanding of general ledger accounting and month-end close processes
• Experience with reconciliations and journal entries
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Interest in process improvement and emerging accounting technologies

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with ERP systems or accounting software
• Exposure to sales/use tax compliance
• Familiarity with lease accounting and fixed asset accounting
• Interest in automation, data analytics, or AI applications in finance and accounting

Compensation & Benefits

• Annual salary range: $55,000 - $65,000
• Compensation and position level determined based on market location, experience, skills, and qualifications
• Competitive compensation commensurate with experience
