BOOKKEEPER / FINANCIAL SYSTEMS VOLUNTEER

Overview

A veteran-owned nonprofit dog rescue and sanctuary located in Catawba, NC, is seeking a Bookkeeper or Nonprofit Finance Volunteer to establish foundational financial systems. The organization currently tracks income and expenses but lacks a formal budget, chart of accounts, financial reporting structure, and a clear understanding of operational costs. This role is critical to improving grant applications, board recruitment, and long-term planning.

Responsibilities

• Develop a simple bookkeeping structure suitable for a small nonprofit
• Assist in creating an annual budget
• Prepare basic financial summaries for presentation to funders and potential board members
• Organize and utilize existing financial records including receipts, bank statements, and donation history

Requirements

• Experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or nonprofit financial management
• Comfortable working remotely with a very small organization starting from minimal financial records
• Familiarity with QuickBooks, Wave, or other small nonprofit accounting software is preferred
