Overview

This role involves owning revenue and direct-cost accounting for a consumer health revenue business, including labs, scans, mobile phlebotomy, supplements, and products launching next. The position is accountable not only for booked revenue, but also for the contribution margin those streams produce. Responsibilities include owning the monthly close for these streams and ensuring the accuracy of the revenue and margin reporting leadership relies on.

Month-end close activities are currently split across different systems and processes, supported by a mix of in-house staff and outside firms/contractors. The mandate is to bring these activities in house into a single consistent process and use automation (including AI tools and agents) to reduce manual effort as underlying systems allow.

You will report to the Senior Director, Revenue Accounting & Operations, and operate as a senior leader within a lean, high-autonomy team. Revenue accounting for the consumer business is still being built, offering influence over the close calendar, systems, and people behind the process.

Responsibilities

  • Own revenue and direct-cost accounting for consumer business streams (labs, scans, mobile phlebotomy, supplements), serving as the reporting authority on the margin those streams produce for leadership.
  • Bring the close in house and consolidate to one process, replacing outside firms/contractors and the patchwork of inherited systems.
  • Own sales tax compliance for consumer products, including resolving nexus and taxability questions as the footprint grows.
  • Automate month-end close activities, including using AI tools and agents to eliminate manual work so the close scales with volume rather than headcount.
  • Standardize new products so they launch into the same process instead of starting their own.
  • Hire and develop the team running these streams, expanding ownership as the group grows.
  • Own the audit relationship for consumer revenue by presenting methodology and keeping controls and documentation SOX-ready.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including direct, in-house ownership of a consumer or health tech revenue close.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Big 4 public accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Deep, applied command of US GAAP and ASC 606 for subscription and service revenue, including judgment to set close policy as new products launch.
  • Experience maturing a raw or early-stage accounting function into a standardized process, including standing up internal systems and controls.
  • Experience with multistate sales tax compliance for consumer products or marketplace platforms, including nexus and taxability determinations.
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools or AI agents in month-end close or accounting workflows, with specific examples of work automated.
  • People management experience: hired, managed, and developed managers or senior accountants; ability to build a team while running the function day to day.
  • Comfortable making decisions without precedent—building a consistent process across streams that do not yet run the same way.
  • Experience with contribution margin or direct-cost accounting by revenue stream (not only top-line revenue recognition).

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA certification (or equivalent).
  • Experience integrating an acquired business’s revenue accounting into a parent company close process.
  • SQL or other data-querying experience sufficient to independently investigate transaction-level data.
  • Experience with subscription-based, membership, or consumer health/tech business models.
  • Hands-on experience with Rillet or a similar revenue recognition automation platform.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Dynamic work environment.
