Finance Engineer

Overview

This fully remote role blends finance and engineering to build client-facing financial tools for a fractional CFO team. The work includes interactive dashboards, forecasting models, AI assistants that answer finance questions from live accounting data, and automations that reduce recurring manual effort.

The organization serves clients across the US, including high-growth startups, SMBs, and nonprofits. Clients typically generate $1 million to $50 million in revenue.

Responsibilities

• Build and own interactive client dashboards (web apps) including:
  • Scenario sliders
  • Drill-down tables
  • Excel exports for finance leads to audit
• Build AI automations that do focused tasks reliably (small, versioned automations with appropriate approval gates)
• Write and maintain database queries to power reporting and connect directly to live client accounting data
• Diagnose and resolve discrepancies:
  • Determine documented causes for disagreements between figures
  • Identify genuine variances vs. amounts that were never comparable
• Work directly with clients (virtually) to clarify needs and translate them into working tools
• Support internal enablement by helping accountants and operators build their own tools, reducing dependency on a single engineer
• Maintain independence in execution using provided tools and procedures, avoiding a ticket-queue workflow

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with a focus in Accounting, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field
• 10+ years of combined experience across accounting or finance and software or systems development
• Clear, concise communication (written and verbal)
• Comfortable working independently in a fully remote environment
• Dedicated workspace and access to reliable, secure, high-speed internet
• Unwavering commitment to confidentiality
• Based in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA or CMA
• Proficiency in SQL
• Experience with at least one accounting system in depth, such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or Dynamics

Compensation & Benefits

• Fully Remote with a structured schedule (work from home)
• Base salary: $150,000 - $180,000 (DOE)
