Overview

This fully remote role connects financial analysis with day-to-day business operations. The Finance and Operations Analyst partners across departments to investigate operational challenges, evaluate resource needs, improve processes, and translate data into practical decisions.

Responsibilities

Business and Operational Analysis

  • Partner with teams across the organization to define business questions, identify relevant data, and develop actionable insights.
  • Analyze workload, service demand, staffing capacity, costs, and process performance to support resource planning.
  • Investigate underlying causes of operational challenges and evaluate whether staffing, process changes, system improvements, or other investments would best address them.
  • Combine financial and operational data to assess business needs, compare options, and recommend next steps.
  • Proactively identify trends, inefficiencies, and emerging issues that warrant further investigation.

Financial Planning and Analysis

  • Prepare financial reports and budget-to-actual variance analyses, explaining key drivers and their business implications.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and updates to financial models.
  • Translate operational assumptions (including staffing needs and changes in business activity) into financial projections.
  • Build and maintain models that compare scenarios so leaders can evaluate costs, tradeoffs, and potential investments.
  • Conduct ad hoc analysis to support planning and business decisions.

Performance Monitoring and Reporting

  • Collaborate with department partners to define and monitor meaningful key performance indicators.
  • Develop and maintain reports and dashboards that make financial and operational performance easier to understand.
  • Gather, validate, and reconcile data from multiple sources; investigate discrepancies and coordinate corrections.
  • Present findings clearly—what the data shows, why it matters, and what action it supports.
  • Document data sources, assumptions, and reporting methods to improve consistency and reliability.

Process Improvement and Systems Support

  • Identify opportunities to simplify workflows, reduce manual effort, and improve data and reporting accuracy.
  • Work with stakeholders to implement process improvements and assess whether changes achieve their intended results.
  • Support day-to-day administration of financial and operational tools, including systems such as Ramp.
  • Help maintain system users and access, including adding and removing users in coordination with established approval processes.
  • Document workflows and support colleagues in using systems and processes effectively.

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Project Ownership

  • Build relationships across departments to understand business needs and connect operational activity with financial outcomes.
  • Manage analytical and process improvement projects from problem definition through recommendations and implementation support.
  • Organize priorities, track progress, and communicate dependencies or roadblocks.
  • Balance recurring reporting and operational responsibilities with new projects and emerging needs.
  • Take initiative to surface problems and propose solutions while keeping stakeholders informed.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Five or more years of relevant experience in business analysis, operations analysis, financial planning and analysis, accounting, or a combination of related roles.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing business or operational questions across functions and connecting findings to financial or resource decisions.

  • Experience investigating root causes, evaluating alternatives, and recommending practical improvements.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup functions, and complex formulas.
  • Experience working with ERP systems or other business platforms and combining data from multiple sources.
  • Experience creating reports, tracking performance measures, or developing dashboards.
  • Ability to manage projects independently: establish an approach and follow through without step-by-step direction.
  • Comfort working with ambiguity, shifting priorities, and evolving processes.
