Overview

This role involves owning the financial planning and analysis function to support leadership with budgeting, forecasting, and capital decision-making through rigorous financial analysis.

Job Type: Full Time

Base Pay: $84,000–$140,000 annually

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

Bonus: Discretionary

Supervises: No direct reports (individual contributor)

Location: Remote (U.S.-based) with approximately 10% travel for leadership meetings and site visits

Responsibilities

Financial Planning & Budgeting

  • Lead and coordinate the annual budget process, including building and maintaining consolidated operating and capital budgets.
  • Collaborate with business unit leaders to develop budget inputs and produce the executive budget package.
  • Maintain rolling forecasts (monthly and quarterly), updating assumptions based on actual results, operational changes, and strategic priorities.
  • Develop and maintain budget templates, driver-based forecast models, and scenario planning tools usable by business partners without finance translation.

Reporting & Variance Analysis

  • Prepare and distribute monthly financial reporting packages comparing actuals to budget, prior periods, and full-year forecasts with clear variance explanations tied to operational drivers.
  • Build and maintain executive dashboards and KPI reports for leadership and board-level audiences.
  • Partner with accounting to ensure the close process integrates cleanly into FP&A reporting; identify and resolve data quality issues.

Capital Planning & Project Finance Support

  • Develop financial models for capital projects and development investments, including cash flow projections, ROI, payback, and sensitivity analyses.
  • Support annual and long-range capital planning; track committed spend against budgets and flag variances.
  • Provide analytical support for financing decisions, including debt capacity modeling, coverage ratio analysis, and capital structure scenarios in coordination with treasury and legal teams.

Business Partnering & Decision Support

  • Act as a finance business partner to operations and project teams, translating financial data into operational context.
  • Respond promptly and accurately to ad hoc analytical requests from executive leadership and business unit leaders.
  • Prepare materials for lender reporting, investor updates, and board presentations as needed.

  • Communicate financial information clearly to non-finance audiences, adjusting detail as appropriate.

  • Maintain data integrity and proactively identify errors before escalation.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of FP&A, corporate finance, or financial analysis experience; experience in energy, infrastructure, or capital-intensive industries preferred.
  • Proven experience owning or supporting full budget and forecast cycles.
  • Strong financial modeling skills including 3-statement operating models, driver-based budgets, DCF analysis, and capital project cash flow projections.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with financial planning software.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Sage, SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) for actuals reconciliation.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint for creating executive-quality financial presentations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • FP&A experience in energy, infrastructure, real estate, or project finance-intensive companies.
  • Familiarity with project finance concepts such as capital budgeting for long-lived assets, debt capacity analysis, and coverage ratios.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools like Power BI or Tableau for financial dashboards.
  • CFA Level I or MBA with finance concentration.
  • Experience preparing lender reporting packages, board financial presentations, or investor materials.

Work Environment

  • Fully remote position with a home office setup for daily planning and analysis.
  • Occasional travel (~10%) for leadership meetings, annual planning sessions, and site visits.
  • Deadline-driven role with predictable periods of higher intensity around month-end close, budget cycles, and board meeting preparation.
  • Requires self-direction and effectiveness without in-person supervision; regular communication with CFO and finance team via video and shared tools.
