Overview

A rapidly growing eCommerce organization is seeking a Principal Financial Analyst specializing in Merchandising Analytics. This strategic role involves partnering across finance, merchandising, marketing, supply chain, and FP&A teams to influence pricing strategies, assortment investments, and category portfolio decisions. The position requires ownership of high-visibility analytical programs and the development of scalable financial models and analytical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead analytical programs impacting pricing, assortment, and category strategy decisions
  • Develop and maintain scalable analytical infrastructure using SQL, Snowflake, Power BI, and Excel to enable self-service reporting
  • Design and interpret complex financial models including PVM analysis, margin scenario planning, and inventory economics
  • Establish and enforce merchandising finance frameworks such as pricing guardrails, margin policies, and ROI standards
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver data-driven insights and strategic recommendations
  • Communicate complex analytical findings clearly to VP and C-level stakeholders to support decision-making
  • Lead margin modeling and post-launch performance analysis for SKU, brand, and assortment launches
  • Evaluate marketing spend effectiveness and work with Marketing and FP&A to optimize ROI and inventory positioning
  • Maintain deep knowledge of retail and eCommerce financial drivers to enhance analytical processes
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency in financial analysis and reporting across projects and teams

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in financial analysis, FP&A, or merchandising finance within retail or eCommerce sectors
  • Proven ability to build and maintain enterprise-grade analytical systems using SQL, Snowflake, Power BI, and advanced Excel
  • Strong financial modeling skills including PVM analysis, margin scenario planning, and category profitability
  • Experience defining and governing merchandising finance frameworks such as pricing guardrails and ROI standards
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and Snowflake for large-scale data extraction and transformation
  • Demonstrated success partnering with Merchandising and Category leadership on pricing, assortment, and P&L management
  • Knowledge of SKU economics, inventory turn, and operational finance principles
  • Experience with marketing spend analytics and demand elasticity modeling is a plus
  • Ability to operate independently and lead cross-functional projects with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills suitable for executive-level audiences
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience considered
