Overview

This role is focused on financial planning, forecasting, reporting, and decision-support analytics for a multidisciplinary behavioral health practice.

Responsibilities

Forecasting & Budgeting

  • Build and maintain the annual budget model using driver-based, dynamic assumptions tied to operational realities, including provider capacity, payer mix, ramp curves, and headcount plans
  • Lead rolling monthly forecast updates across revenue, expenses, and cash projections, surfacing risks and opportunities 60–90 days ahead
  • Own cash flow forecasting in partnership with the VP, with a focus on hiring timing and spend pacing

Data Extraction & Analysis

  • Pull data from AdvancedMD, Rippling, and other systems to answer specific business questions without relying on others to provide cleaned datasets
  • Structure findings into clear analyses and provide a point of view to the VP—beyond reporting numbers, including what they mean and recommended next steps
  • Identify emerging questions and trends that the business hasn’t yet considered

Reporting & Variance Analysis

  • Deliver monthly variance analysis with written narrative explaining the operational story behind results
  • Build and maintain Power BI dashboards tracking provider productivity, payer mix, collections performance, no-show impact, CPT-level margin, and cost per visit
  • Produce board and executive reporting packages that are forward-looking and decision-ready

Financial Modeling & Decision Support

  • Build pro formas for new locations, new service lines, and provider compensation structures
  • Model provider-level profitability using revenue, collections, utilization, and allocated costs to identify what is working and what isn’t
  • Produce scenario models for payer reimbursement changes, capital decisions, and incentive plan design

Data & Systems

  • Extract, clean, and connect data from AdvancedMD, Rippling, and other sources into Power BI reporting
  • Partner with a Data Scientist to translate demand forecasting and capacity outputs into financial projections and planning assumptions
  • Maintain clear definitions for core KPIs so finance and operations share the same language

Other Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

Core Competencies (assessed during hiring, onboarding, and ongoing performance evaluation)

Technical & Functional Competencies

  • Financial Planning & Forecasting: Build and maintain driver-based financial models (annual budgets, rolling forecasts, cash flow projections) with work that is accurate, documented, and defensible without requiring supervisory reconstruction
  • Data Extraction & Systems Proficiency: Extract, clean, and structure data from source systems including AdvancedMD, Rippling, and Power BI; operate independently in these systems for routine pulls
  • Healthcare Revenue Cycle Knowledge: Understand CPT-driven revenue models, payer mix dynamics, reimbursement mechanics, provider ramp curves, and collections performance; apply this knowledge directly to financial planning assumptions and variance analysis
  • Financial Modeling & Decision Support: Build pro formas, scenario models, and provider-level profitability analyses that support strategic decisions (new location evaluation, provider compensation design, and capital investment cases)
  • Reporting & Data Visualization: Build and maintain Power BI dashboards and produce board-ready reporting packages that are forward-looking, narrative-driven, and accessible to non-financial stakeholders

Behavioral & Professional Competencies

  • Analytical Rigor: Produce accurate, assumption-tested models; identify root causes of variances; validate drivers and stress-test outputs before presenting
  • Strategic Thinking: Connect financial insights to operational and growth strategy; proactively model decisions and surface risks/opportunities ahead of planning cycles
  • Executive Communication: Communicate complex financial findings clearly in written and verbal form; translate analysis into actionable recommendations for non-financial stakeholders
  • Accountability & Ownership: Take end-to-end responsibility for forecast quality, reporting accuracy, and follow-through; initiate work without being prompted
  • Collaboration & Operational Partnership: Align metrics, definitions, and accountability across teams; maintain lane discipline when working with the Data Scientist and other partners
  • Adaptability & Problem Solving: Operate effectively with imperfect or evolving data; improve processes and definitions over time
  • Professional & Ethical Conduct: Maintain confidentiality of financial, operational, and patient-adjacent data in accordance with organizational policy and applicable regulatory requirements; demonstrate integrity in reporting and modeling

What We’re Looking For

Must-Haves

  • 3+ years in FP&A, strategic finance, or financial modeling with progressively increasing ownership
  • Personally built and maintained a full budget and rolling forecast cycle (not supported by someone else)
  • Demonstrated ability to go into source systems, extract data, and structure it into meaningful analysis without being told exactly how
  • Advanced Excel modeling skills, including driver-based models, scenario analysis, and sensitivity tables
  • Strong written communication to explain what the numbers mean and what to do about it
  • Comfort operating in environments where data is imperfect and processes are still being built
  • Brings answers and a point of view, not just completed tasks
  • Experiences with data systems (Power BI, Cognos, Tableau, Zoho); Power BI experience is preferred but not required
  • Some experience with P&L/payroll/operational inputs

Strong Differentiators

  • AdvancedMD experience (significant plus)
  • Multi-site outpatient healthcare, behavioral health, or medical group background
  • Familiarity with payer mix dynamics, CPT-driven revenue models, and reimbursement mechanics
  • Experience working alongside or translating outputs from data science/analytics teams
  • Rippling or comparable HRIS/payroll system experience

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $95,000 – $120,000 depending on experience and qualifications
