Overview

Inventory Cost Accounting Manager (Remote, US)

This full-time, remote role supports the Accounting team’s monthly close, financial controls, and US GAAP reporting. As Inventory Cost Accounting Manager, you will own inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS) accounting for key drivers of the business and lead a team of accountants.

Responsibilities

  • Own inventory and COGS accounting across 3PL warehouses and manufacturing partners, ensuring accurate inventory valuation and financial reporting.
  • Deliver a clean, on-time monthly inventory close and provide Finance leadership a clear view of what drives COGS and gross margin, including reserves, landed and average costs, and purchase price variances.
  • Maintain inventory audit-ready controls: review journal entries and reconciliations, oversee physical counts, support quarterly reviews and the annual audit, and document conclusions on complex transactions.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of accountants, including setting priorities, reviewing work, and ensuring accurate results delivered on time.
  • Improve inventory accounting processes by partnering with Operations, Finance, and systems teams to strengthen data accuracy, reduce manual work, and use automation and AI-enabled tools where appropriate for reconciliations, reporting, and controls.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in inventory and cost accounting, ideally in a consumer products, retail, manufacturing, or direct-to-consumer business.
  • Hands-on knowledge of inventory valuation, COGS, landed costs, reserves, and inventory reconciliations.
  • Solid understanding of US GAAP and SOX controls in a public company environment.
  • Experience leading and developing accountants, balancing hands-on work with team management.
  • Experience with NetSuite or similar ERP systems and inventory management applications.
  • Strong analytical skills to investigate discrepancies, determine root causes, and explain drivers of changes to the Controller, FP&A, and Operations partners.
  • Demonstrated track record of improving accounting processes through better systems, automation, and data-driven workflows.
  • Comfort making judgment calls on gray-area inventory issues and keeping the close on track when priorities shift.
