Overview

A growing public accounting firm, ranked among the top 25 in Virginia by number of CPAs on staff, is seeking seasonal tax professionals. The firm provides tax, audit, accounting, and business advisory services to a diverse client base including privately held businesses, individuals, estates, trusts, nonprofit organizations, and employee benefit plans. Industries served include professional service firms, government contractors, nonprofits, real estate, construction, specialty contractors, and healthcare providers.

Position Summary

Seasonal tax positions are available primarily from February to mid-April, with potential for additional hours outside of tax season. These roles are ideal for candidates seeking recurring annual seasonal work. Flexible schedules are offered, with a minimum commitment of 25 hours per week during tax season.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare complicated individual and/or business income tax returns.
  • Prepare and/or review individual, partnership, and corporate income tax returns.
  • Interact directly with clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or an accounting certificate.
  • One or more years of related experience.
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles.

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. tax regulations.
  • Knowledge of state and federal tax form processes and accurate preparation.
  • Ability to prioritize daily tasks and meet deadlines for multiple clients.
  • Knowledge of accounting processes and advanced mathematical skills.
  • Experience consulting tax handbooks or other resources to prepare challenging returns.
  • Proficiency with various accounting software and troubleshooting common issues.
  • High level of personal integrity when handling sensitive financial information.
  • Professional experience in financial forecasting and risk analysis.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Occasional lifting of boxes and/or paperwork up to 25 pounds.
