Senior Accountant

Overview

Remote position.

This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, including loan portfolio accounting, revenue recognition on interest and fees, allowance for credit losses, and month-end closing. The position works closely with the finance team and the Tech / Products / Operations teams, and supports Loan Operations to ensure accounting treatment aligns with IFRS and applicable regulatory requirements.

The role also contributes to external audits, internal controls, and process improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries (including accruals, prepayments, payroll, depreciation and amortisation, provisions, and intercompany charges) and review journal entries posted by the accounting team
• Perform account reconciliations and prepare supporting schedules; ensure the general ledger is complete, accurate, and closed within established deadlines
• Support PO and PR processes and budget tracking
• Assist with month-end and period-end close activities, including reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules, to ensure timely and accurate general ledger close
• Perform loan portfolio accounting, including accounting for loan originations, interest income, fee income, and amortization of premiums/discounts and Rewards
• Reconcile loan sub-ledgers to the general ledger
• Support the calculation, documentation, and journal entries for the ECL allowance, including charge-offs, recoveries, and roll-forward schedules
• Prepare financial statements and management reporting packages in accordance with IFRS
• Assist with variance analysis against budget and prior periods
• Perform and review bank reconciliations and reconcile classification of bank transfers, intercompany, clearing, and suspense accounts; investigate and resolve discrepancies timely
• Maintain and strengthen internal control documentation; identify control gaps and recommend remediation
• Support external audits and internal audit as a primary point of contact by preparing requested schedules and supporting documentation
• Identify opportunities to streamline close processes, automate reconciliations, and improve reporting accuracy and efficiency; support system implementations and upgrades
• Perform additional accounting and analysis tasks as assigned by management

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 4–5 years of experience in accounting or finance
• Good knowledge of IFRS, financial reporting, and month-end closing

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in consumer finance, particularly in loan portfolio accounting and financial reporting
• CMA certification
