Overview
An established consulting organization is seeking an experienced accounting professional with at least five years of experience to join their growing Accounting team. This role offers variety, responsibility, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a dynamic and carefully growing company.
The organization operates with approximately 700 employees across 20 offices nationwide, structured similarly to a law firm with seven business units. The financial reporting consolidates results from 32 profit centers, and the Accounting group consists of 16 professionals working in a highly coordinated, mostly remote environment. The team consistently completes month-end close within 2½ business days.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a strong sense of professional independence and understand fiduciary responsibilities associated with the accounting role.
- Apply sound judgment when evaluating processes and risks, recognizing that not all exceptions carry the same level of risk or require identical responses.
- Actively participate in discussions on best practices, process improvement, efficiency, and collaboration.
- Focus on profitability and collaborate with others to enhance it.
- Demonstrate ability to learn, adapt, and improve processes through root cause analysis, development of sustainable solutions, and teamwork.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting from a CPA-eligible program (CPA certification not required).
- Strong understanding of the full accounting cycle, including reconciliations, month-end closing, and year-end preparation for external audit or review.
- Experience working daily within a sophisticated ERP environment; familiarity with Deltek Vantagepoint is preferred.
- Working knowledge of consolidation theory; candidates with direct experience in consolidated reporting will be given preference.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills.
Location
Most Accounting team members work remotely, and candidates from across the United States are eligible. However, there is a strong preference for candidates located in the Chicago area, where the organization's headquarters is based.
