Overview

The Senior Director of the Finance Transformation Office is a strategic transformation leader responsible for designing, executing, and governing corporate finance and technology-led transformation initiatives. The role reports to Finance Executive and focuses on modernization across financial systems, processes, and operating models to improve efficiency, transparency, and decision-making.

This position works closely with finance and business unit leaders, partnering across a complex matrix of finance, technology, and business stakeholders. The Senior Director will build alignment, drive shared accountability, accelerate adoption of transformation initiatives through maturity and scalability, proactively identify transformation risks, remove barriers to execution, and deliver practical enterprise-wide solutions.

Responsibilities

Strategy and roadmap

  • Set a multi-year finance transformation strategy aligned to growth and scalability goals, and keep it current as priorities shift.
  • Drive alignment between finance transformation and enterprise transformation initiatives to keep priorities, dependencies, and investments coordinated.
  • Build and prioritize the initiative portfolio across Finance Operations functions, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, and Reporting, using clear value cases (cost, cycle time, risk, insight).
  • Advise the CFO and finance leadership on where automation, AI, and other emerging technologies will change how finance works, and where they will not deliver payback.

Delivery and governance

  • Run the Finance Transformation Office (FTO) portfolio end to end, including scope, budget, timeline, resourcing, and value realization/benefits tracking after go-live.
  • Lead multi-year programs spanning process redesign, ERP and EPM implementations, and operating model changes such as shared services or centers of excellence.
  • Establish finance process governance across the enterprise and program governance that speeds decisions, including process ownership standards, steering committees, stage gates, and clear escalation paths.
  • Lead risk management across the transformation portfolio by identifying, escalating, and mitigating delivery, control, and stakeholder alignment risks.
  • Standardize finance performance measurement and reporting using consistent KPIs to track transformation outcomes.
  • Build and govern a single, trusted finance data foundation, ensuring data quality and data management practices support consistent definitions for reporting, planning, and analytics.
  • Ensure every change strengthens the control environment and remains audit-ready.

Change, adoption, and innovation

  • Own change management and communications to ensure new processes and tools are adopted, not just deployed, driving commitment and accountability across a diverse stakeholder landscape.
  • Build finance capability to work in new ways through training, playbooks, and super-user networks, supported by cross-functional collaboration.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement by piloting emerging technologies and scaling what works.

Team leadership

  • Oversee and manage the full FTO team across business, technology, and PMO functions.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team of transformation leads, global business process owners (GBPOs), business analysts, and project managers.
  • Develop enterprise transformation capabilities and next-generation finance transformation talent.
  • Foster strong partnerships across Finance, Technology, and Business functions.
  • Lead through ambiguity, establishing clarity, alignment, and momentum across complex, cross-functional transformation initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Business, or related field; Master’s or MBA preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in finance, finance systems, or finance consulting, including at least 7 years leading finance transformation programs.
  • Track record delivering end-to-end large-scale finance transformation (e.g., an ERP or EPM implementation, or shared services build) in a global, multi-entity, matrixed organization, with demonstrated, measurable business value.
  • Deep working knowledge of core finance processes including record-to-report, planning and forecasting, consolidation, and financial controls, and how they run in systems such as Oracle or SAP.
  • Experience implementing process governance frameworks and managing value realization and benefits tracking.
  • Proven ability to build enterprise transformation capabilities and teams, and manage teams across locations, remote settings, and levels of seniority.
  • Fluency in modern finance technology (cloud ERP, EPM, automation, data platforms) sufficient to shape architecture decisions alongside Enterprise Technology.
  • Fair understanding of enterprise architecture, data modernization, Analytics and agile frameworks.
  • Proven change leadership, including leading finance operating model redesign and organizational change, moving a finance organization to new ways of working, and demonstrating adoption results.
  • Executive presence and influence, including strong stakeholder management, experience presenting to executive and board-level audiences, and ability to frame trade-offs for a CFO, SVP, and steering committee while earning trust from delivery teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA, CA, CMA, MBA.
  • Big Four or finance-transformation consulting experience, paired with in-house delivery.
  • Experience integrating acquired entities onto a common finance platform.
