Overview
The Tax Technology team builds and operates systems that calculate indirect tax on every transaction. Work spans automations and implementations relied on by the direct tax team, data operations across the tax function, and tooling that improves speed and efficiency for the broader tax organization.
This role supports a dependency-heavy environment where multiple billing domains feed tax services and must work together correctly. Tax outcomes must be accurate on every order the first time to avoid incorrect charges, restatement risk, and audit exposure.
Responsibilities
As Senior Manager, Tax Technology Implementations, you will own the technical implementation plan across domains and the indirect tax calculation service. You will be accountable for the tax outcome of implementations, including requirements, design judgment, and technical decisions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Requirements and design
- Author tax requirements and acceptance criteria engineers build against and that hold up under audit.
- Review design documents and push back when designs won’t scale to tax rules.
- Scope and sequencing
- Define what’s in and out for each integration.
- Own the critical path and drive what ships when.
- Identify downstream impacts quickly when teams slip and bring options.
- Roadmap influence
- Get tax work prioritized onto eight other teams’ roadmaps.
- Defend priority changes when roadmaps are bumped in collaboration with engineering, product, and tax.
- Launch and operational readiness
- Define testing, monitoring, and rollout plans.
- Set go/no-go and rollback criteria.
- Ensure integrations land with runbooks, alerting, and a clear steady-state owner.
- Risk
- Own the risk register and escalate risks with recommendations.
- Anticipate and address issues proactively.
- Program execution
- Maintain the integrated plan as the source of truth.
- Keep decision cadence across Tax, Product, Engineering, and Data.
- Report program status to senior leadership in a format they trust.
Requirements
- 8+ years in a corporate tax department, public accounting, or technology consulting
- Global or multi-country indirect tax implementation experience, including familiarity with non-US indirect tax regimes
- Hands-on experience implementing Marketplace Facilitator laws across jurisdictions
- Program or project management experience across multiple dependent engineering teams, including building plans, milestones, and dependency maps, and driving execution to completion
- Experience directly engaging with engineering teams on product development, including the ability to read a technical design document and assess whether it will hold
- Experience defining testing and monitoring strategies for systems where correctness matters
- Strong analytical skills and high organization with close attention to detail, able to hold both the big picture and specifics
- Comfort operating without formal authority in a highly collaborative, multi-stakeholder environment, including the ability to challenge the status quo while keeping partners aligned
Preferred Qualifications
- The role emphasizes experience across multiple dependent engineering teams, influence across roadmaps, and the ability to translate indirect tax requirements into engineering deliverables.
