Overview

This role supports fast-paced fractional Controller, AP, and GL services for 70+ network companies during acquisition transitions and cleanup efforts. As part of the accounting transition team, you step in when new companies are acquired—or when existing ones need stabilization—to ensure books are GAAP-clean and ready for ongoing ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Clean up and standardize payroll/benefits liabilities and expenses, accruals, deferred revenue, AP, ST/LT liabilities, prepaids, inventory, customer deposits, and chart-of-accounts mapping before handoff
  • Serve as the primary G/L accountant for multiple network companies in transition
  • Determine and implement accounting entries including accruals, reserves, reclasses, and intercompany entries
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts (including cash, credit cards, fixed assets, tax liabilities, and payroll liabilities)
  • Support GL/ERP migrations, system integrations, and testing
  • Map legacy chart of accounts onto the organization’s standardized chart of accounts
  • Configure the GL structure (account structure, segments, dimensions, and reporting hierarchy) to make reporting useful and efficient
  • Identify ERP-driven and accrual/estimation process improvements that shorten the month-end close
  • Review inventory processes and COGS recognition to align with revenue recognition practices
  • Turn complex transactions into insights usable by network company leadership
  • Clean up inherited reporting and accrual calculations and build a reliable baseline
  • Keep books audit-ready throughout the transition (not only at handoff)
  • Support audit, tax, and due-diligence requests with airtight documentation and digital audit trails
  • Identify control and process gaps before they become audit findings
  • Automate manual, siloed, and disconnected processes so improvements scale to future network company onboarding
  • Coach onsite finance leads on AR standard practices, including payment application and collections hygiene
  • Modernize and streamline AP tools (e.g., bill.com and Charted), tighten credit-card transaction syncing and coding/approval processes, and coordinate payment releases with the network company President
  • Sync and reconcile cash, credit cards, and payroll to the correct GL accounts
  • Train onsite network company staff on new workflows and close responsibilities
  • Document SOPs and training materials in the organization’s Google Drive
  • Participate in recurring knowledge-transfer sessions and hand off month-end close cleanly to the ongoing team
  • Assist with refining the onboarding playbook and KPIs with the transitions team
  • Report findings to the Sr. Transition Controller and flag major issues quickly

Requirements

  • Strong focus on month-end close execution with a priority on accuracy and quality
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment and thrive with constantly changing technology and processes
  • High frustration tolerance and ability to solve messy accounting puzzles
  • Comfortable handling documentation and filing paper processes to ensure proper controls and audit readiness
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders and clearly communicate accounting impact in plain business terms
  • Willingness to meet network company staff and teammates where they are and support them through the finish line

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience serving as a primary G/L accountant across multiple entities during transition activities
  • Familiarity with GAAP cleanup activities, accruals, deferred revenue, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Experience with ERP-driven process changes and GL/ERP migration support
  • Experience standardizing chart of accounts mappings and configuring GL reporting structures
  • Experience supporting internal controls, audit/tax/due-diligence documentation, and digital audit trails

Compensation & Benefits

  • Medical, Dental, Vision, FSA/HSA
  • 100% paid for employee (and dependents on most plans)
  • 15 days of vacation time plus paid time off for 19 holidays, 5 sick days, and one floating holiday of your choice

Location

  • Not specified in the provided job description.
