Overview
This full-time Staff Accountant position is remote, requiring residency in Missouri or Illinois. The annual salary is $60,000, depending on education and experience.
The role demands a detail-oriented, self-driven professional capable of managing high-volume accounting tasks with accuracy and confidentiality. Responsibilities include daily accounting functions, financial statement preparation, account reconciliation, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and organizational policies.
Responsibilities
- Perform full-charge accounting for multiple locations supporting ministry operations
- Manage day-to-day accounting functions including revenue receipting, accounts payable, and ledger maintenance
- Maintain cash control logs and issue weekly reports to designated officers
- File monthly sales tax returns timely for units
- Prepare and input journal entries following established procedures
- Perform bank reconciliations for non-assigned locations
- Provide and maintain access to monthly and annual closing reports and analysis files
- Adjust Temporarily Restricted Assets and maintain related analysis files
- Coordinate monthly balances with Grant and Contract Accountant
- Review ledgers associated with related funds and accounts
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly
- Prepare monthly financial statements for review and finalization by the Assistant Controller by the 15th of each month
- Prepare financial summary reports for presentations to advisory and council groups
- Prepare annual closing entries, analyses, and reports in accordance with GAAP
- Coordinate and prepare audit schedules
- Assist in budget preparation and enter annual and revised budgets into accounting software
- Prepare written reviews of budget variances monthly and as needed
- Maintain records in compliance with established policies and procedures
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 2 years relevant accounting experience
- Strong proficiency with spreadsheets and accounting software
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with minimal supervision
- Collaborative mindset, sound judgment, and commitment to confidentiality
- Successful completion of an accounting skills test
