Overview

This role supports strategic finance and planning for a fast-growing organization expanding into multiple markets. The position owns the operating model and forecasting cycle, builds financial cases for new opportunities, and helps translate results into executive-ready narratives.

Responsibilities

Own the operating model and forecast cycle

  • Own the driver-based operating model for the base business and expand it as new insurance products and business lines launch.
  • Run the annual budget and long-range planning process end to end, including cadence, assumptions, stakeholder inputs, and the consolidated plan the executive team commits to.
  • Own the monthly and quarterly forecast cycle and variance analysis, explaining what moved against plan and prior period after Accounting closes the books, why it moved, and what it means for the forecast.
  • Write executive narratives that translate financial results into clear business insights for the CFO, founders, board, and investors, suitable for external diligence.
  • Lead monthly business reviews with functional leaders, turning what the numbers show into the business decisions that need to be made.
  • Support evaluation and implementation of a planning system by assessing options, making recommendations, and owning rollout.

Build the financial case for new opportunities

  • Build financial models for new products, verticals, channels, or partnerships, including market sizing, economics, and evaluation of capital commitment and return profile.
  • Compare actual economics to underwriting assumptions once something is live, and carry lessons into the next decision.
  • Monitor product and channel economics, including CAC and payback, policy retention and lifetime value, contribution margin, etc.
  • Support corporate development efforts through diligence, modeling, and transaction analysis as needed.
  • Help frame build, buy, or partner decisions by refining frameworks used to compare options and return profiles.

Underwrite vendor spend

  • Build business cases before commitments are made, support negotiation on terms, and provide budget owners visibility to manage their own numbers.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of relevant experience, ideally combining 2+ years at a reputable investment bank, corporate development group, or private equity firm with 2+ years in strategic finance or FP&A at a high-growth company.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a similarly quantitative field.
  • Strong financial modeling skills, including driver-based operating models, three-statement mechanics, scenario and sensitivity analysis, and working command of accounting concepts and GAAP.
  • Experience with unit economics in a consumer or marketplace business, including CAC, LTV, payback, cohort retention, and contribution margin.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex analysis into clear narratives for executive or investor audiences.
  • Startup or high-growth experience strongly preferred, including building financial processes from scratch.
  • Hands-on fluency with AI tools for analysis, research, and workflow automation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Insurance, insurtech, fintech, or marketplace experience.
  • CFA certification.
  • Vendor negotiation or procurement exposure.
  • Finance tech stack experience (NetSuite, Ramp, planning tools).

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting pay will fall within the pay range listed on the job posting, determined based on job-related factors including skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. Ranges are market-dependent and may be modified in the future.
  • In addition to base salary, compensation may include opportunities for equity grants.
  • Comprehensive benefits package (regular employees), including health, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, paid parental leave, 401(K) plan with employer matching, and wellness benefits.
  • Equity opportunities may also be part of the total rewards package.
