Overview
This role involves serving as an Accountant II responsible for maintaining financial integrity by preparing and analyzing general ledger month-end journal entries within an assigned functional accounting team. The position requires a solid understanding of United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) and healthcare-specific accounting issues. Collaboration with corporate and facility-based accounting units is essential to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and complete month-end journal entries in accordance with US GAAP, ensuring all supporting documentation is attached and properly filed.
- Perform detailed variance analysis on assigned accounts, comparing actual results to budget and trends, and provide clear explanations during month-end reviews.
- Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations for assigned functional areas, identifying and resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Evaluate the source and appropriateness of information used in journal entries, asking follow-up questions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Develop estimates for current month activity based on historical data and financial analysis when necessary.
- Gain and apply knowledge of healthcare-specific accounting issues relevant to assigned areas, seeking ongoing learning opportunities and feedback.
- Assist accounting leads and managers with information requests from various teams across the organization, supporting cross-functional collaboration.
- Participate in special projects such as process improvements, research of general ledger transactions, and support year-end external audits.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of internal controls and ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in healthcare or related fields.
- Experience with General Ledger accounting and healthcare-specific accounting preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to interpret and apply US GAAP principles effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
