Overview

This role owns the general ledger close, technical accounting, and internal controls for a technology business operating under US GAAP. It is a hands-on management position responsible for running monthly and quarterly close cycles, resolving complex revenue recognition and accrual questions, and ensuring SOX controls remain effective under internal and external audit scrutiny.

The position supports SEC reporting readiness and audit defense.

Responsibilities

  • Own month-end and quarter-end close in NetSuite, delivering accurate GAAP financial statements within a 5-business-day close timeline
  • Research, document, and apply technical accounting positions, including:
    • Revenue recognition (ASC 606)
    • Leases (ASC 842)
    • Stock-based compensation (ASC 718)
  • Design, execute, and monitor SOX 404 controls; coordinate remediation of deficiencies identified by internal audit or external auditors
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, flux analyses, and supporting schedules for quarterly SEC reporting packages
  • Manage and develop a team of 2–3 staff and senior accountants, including setting close calendars and reviewing deliverables
  • Partner with FP&A, revenue, and legal teams on new contracts, product launches, and accounting policy implications
  • Drive automation of manual close processes, including journal entry workflows and reconciliation tools (BlackLine or similar)

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of combined public accounting and industry experience; Big 4 or national firm background strongly preferred
  • CPA license (active or in good standing)
  • Deep working knowledge of US GAAP, ASC 606, and SOX 404 control frameworks; familiarity with SEC reporting (10-K/10-Q) preferred
  • Hands-on ERP experience with NetSuite or comparable mid-market systems; strong Excel modeling skills
  • Prior experience managing or mentoring accounting staff through close cycles
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SaaS revenue models (multi-element arrangements, usage-based billing)
  • Experience administering equity compensation
  • Experience supporting IPO-readiness workstreams
