Overview
This role involves leading the global accounting function and taking it to public-company standard. You will set controllership strategy, own the close and accounting policy, build the controls environment, and lead accounting workstreams supporting IPO readiness. The position is designed for a builder who will architect processes and systems for a multi-entity, manufacturing-and-deployment business while remaining close enough to resolve the hardest technical accounting questions.
Responsibilities
Close and reporting

- Deliver accurate, timely US GAAP financial statements, including multi-entity consolidation and foreign currency translation across international subsidiaries
- Own the accounting content of board, investor, and lender reporting packages, and ensure ongoing debt covenant compliance
Technical accounting and policy
- Establish and document accounting policies and technical positions; defend them with auditors and senior leadership
- Lead revenue recognition (ASC 606) for complex, milestone-heavy hardware, deployment, software, and services contracts, including multiple performance obligations and variable consideration
- Advise sales, legal, and deal teams on revenue and accounting implications of complex customer and government contract terms before signature
- Own accounting for leases (ASC 842), stock-based compensation (ASC 718), debt and financing transactions, contract costs (ASC 340-40), and foreign operations (ASC 830)
Audit, controls, and IPO readiness
- Own the external audit relationship and lead the annual audit, negotiating significant accounting and scope matters with the audit partner
- Define the SOX readiness roadmap and direct the design and implementation of internal controls to achieve a SOX-ready control environment within 12 months
- Own the accounting workstreams for IPO readiness in partnership with legal, FP&A, and external advisors on timeline and deliverables; drive process improvements across finance
Government and international
- Own accounting and compliance for US government contracts (Other Transaction agreements today, FAR/DFARS work ahead), including invoicing and cost compliance
- Partner with tax and treasury on strategy for intercompany, transfer pricing, statutory audits, and local filings across international entities
Strategy, leadership, and systems
- Set the accounting systems roadmap; own and scale the ERP (NetSuite) and surrounding stack: procure-to-pay, billing, payroll, inventory/MRP, and consolidation tools
- Develop new methods to automate, standardize, and document close and reporting processes as the business scales
- Build, lead, and develop a growing accounting and tax organization (including hiring and developing managers); set the bar for rigor and pace, and define performance standards and career paths for the team
- Help establish the finance organization’s strategic plans and objectives; translate them into a multi-year controllership roadmap covering people, process, systems, and controls
- Cascade functional strategy into clear goals, priorities, and evaluation criteria for the accounting and tax team
- Own the accounting department budget, including headcount, audit and advisory fees, and systems spend
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the VP Finance and executive team on accounting implications of strategic decisions, transactions, and financings
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field; active CPA license
- 12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years leading an accounting function as a Controller or Director at a high-growth company

- Big 4 or national-firm public accounting experience
- Deep US GAAP judgment, especially ASC 606 on complex hardware-plus-services arrangements (able to write a memo and defend it)
- Track record leading external audits and building SOX-ready controls before they were required
- Multi-entity, multi-currency consolidation experience across international subsidiaries
- Comfort with ambiguity and pace: you prefer building the playbook to following one
- Executive presence: explains complex accounting matters clearly to executives, the board, auditors, and investors; able to reconcile competing stakeholder views
- Experience owning a departmental budget and multi-year functional roadmap
