Overview

The organization is seeking a Finance & Strategy Manager to join its Business Strategic Finance team, supporting the largest strategic commercial partnerships. This role partners with Financial Operations, Product, Data Science, and Legal to shape commercial agreements across payment networks, banks, and processors supporting Square, Cash App, and Afterpay.

This is a hands-on role focused on deal modeling, forecasting, and cross-functional strategic execution. The position reports to a Finance & Strategy Lead within Business Strategic Finance.

Candidates may sit in any Block office in the US or be remote from any US state with the exception of Alaska.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the key Strategic Finance partner for the commercial partnership portfolio, owning the financial and strategic narrative for managing relationships and defining next steps.
  • Develop a point of view on where value sits across partner relationships, using market trends, competitive intelligence, and internal data to inform what to negotiate for and when.
  • Lead financial modeling and deal advisory for major partner negotiations (pricing tiers, volume commitments, incentive mechanics) from initial framing through term sheet to signed agreement.
  • Forecast variable costs across brands and explain drivers behind volume and mix shifts that move the rate paid.
  • Drive cross-functional strategic projects with partners including Financial Operations, Product, Data Science, Legal, and Accounting, from problem framing through recommendation and execution.
  • Distill complex findings into concise narratives and visualizations for executive-level decision-making.
  • Build and scale rigorous analytics, including dashboards, SQL queries, and automated reporting to surface insights.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in investment banking, private equity, strategic or corporate finance, or management consulting (tech or financial-services focus is a plus).
  • Experience building financial analysis behind commercial negotiations, contracts, or partnerships, including modeling deal structures and pricing mechanics and translating signed terms into a forecast.
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and ability to connect disparate data to form a strategic point of view.
  • Ability to form recommendations from incomplete information by reading market and competitive signals and defending decisions with senior stakeholders.
  • Mastery of Excel / Google Sheets and comfort with SQL and modern AI-assisted analytics tools.
  • Track record of owning work end to end—from ambiguous starting questions through decision-making.
  • Experience leading projects with multiple cross-functional partners in fast-paced environments.
  • Passion for Economic Empowerment and a commitment to building inclusive financial products.
