Overview
The Financial Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate and timely financial records for an assigned portfolio of properties. Reporting to the Senior Financial Accountant, this role focuses on daily bookkeeping functions such as posting journal entries, managing accruals, and performing reconciliations to ensure the integrity of each property's balance sheet. The position also involves financial analysis and communication with property owners, with an emphasis on operational accounting processes and procedures within the hospitality sector. Prior hotel financial experience is preferred.

Responsibilities
- Manage daily bookkeeping functions, including accurate and timely journal entries for a portfolio of properties, ensuring general ledger integrity.
- Record monthly accruals for property taxes, insurance, utilities, payroll, management fees, franchise fees, and other expenses.
- Reconcile balance sheet and bank accounts monthly and quarterly, ensuring timely clearance of outstanding items.
- Maintain organized support documentation for all journal entries and accruals in compliance with audit and corporate standards.
- Complete weekly cash position reports and post necessary cash transactions to the ledger daily.
- Analyze profit and loss statements, perform variance analysis, and review financial performance to interpret data and provide actionable insights.
- Provide initial analysis and commentary on financial discrepancies and trends for review by the Senior Financial Accountant.
- Participate in financial review meetings to gain exposure to hotel financial strategy development.
- Perform monthly and quarterly balance sheet reconciliations for assigned properties, ensuring accounts are reconciled with appropriate supporting documentation and discrepancies addressed promptly.
- Assist with internal, SOC, and third-party audit preparation by providing accurate reconciliation documentation and supporting schedules.
- Support due diligence documentation gathering for property transitions such as purchases, sales, or refinancing.
- Review hotel ledger reports, including guest ledger, accounts receivable aging, and advanced deposit ledgers; identify and communicate discrepancies according to company policies and escalate unresolved issues as necessary.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements within accounting workflows and collaborate with leadership to implement enhancements.
- Provide training and support to the accounting team, sharing best practices to maintain compliance and financial integrity.
- Participate in owner relations calls to understand owner expectations, provide financial data, and build relationships with property management and ownership.
Requirements
- Experience in hotel or hospitality financial accounting is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of bookkeeping, journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Ability to analyze financial statements and perform variance analysis.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to maintain audit-ready documentation.
- Effective communication skills for collaboration with property owners, management, and accounting teams.

- Pay range: $54,235.30 - $67,794.13 annually.
