Overview
A rapidly growing digital marketing and coaching organization serving law firms nationwide is seeking a full-time Fractional Law Firm Accountant. This client-facing role involves managing bookkeeping and accounting functions specifically tailored to law firm clients. The position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a focus on legal accounting.
Responsibilities
- Perform complex, multi-month historical IOLTA trust account cleanups and monthly 3-way reconciliations to ensure State Bar compliance.
- Act as the primary point of contact for law firm partners, providing financial updates, managing client onboarding, resolving discrepancies, and handling operational inquiries independently.
- Manage daily synchronization and mapping between cloud accounting platforms (QuickBooks Online, Xero) and legal practice management/billing software (Clio, Tabs3, TimeSolv, MyCase).
- Track billable attorney hours, process monthly client invoices, manage collections, and navigate corporate or insurance e-billing portals such as CounselLink, TyMetrix, Bottomline, and Legal Tracker.
- Handle full-cycle accounting operations including daily data entry, accounts payable, credit card tracking, bank-to-book cash matching, payroll processing tracking, and annual 1099/1096 compliance filings.
- Generate, self-verify, and present monthly Profit & Loss statements, Balance Sheets, and Cash Flow reports to firm partners, correcting accounting errors independently.
- Manage accounting for 10–15 law firms, covering everything from daily bookkeeping to complex trust account cleanups and partner communications.
Requirements
- Minimum 4 years of full-charge bookkeeping or accounting experience in a professional services environment, with direct legal accounting experience required.
- Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Clio or equivalent legal technology platforms.
- Extensive experience with law firm accounting workflows.
- Strong technical skills including balancing balance sheets, managing fixed assets, executing accrual and adjusting entries, and resolving neglected trust accounts.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent senior-level accounting experience.
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual salary range: $60,000 - $70,000, based on experience.
